Hi all,
I am travelling to Istanbul on the 1st December 2006 and got a very good deal on a flight the only drawback is I have to change in Zurich (Switzerland) I am a worrier and see that they only give me an hour in between landing in Zurich and then catching the next plane to Istanbul, I know things can happen and planes get delayed what if this happens and I arrive too late for my transfer, advice please and experiences put my mind at rest. I have contacted the airline and my travel agent and if by any reason there is a delay then they will put me on the next available plane.

It's very likely that your suitcases will not be transferred to your plane to İstanbul even if you can catch the plane. It happened to me twice. I could catch the plane but my suitcases were not transferred to my plane. You have to report your lost luggage at the airport and they should be delivered to you later.

I never had any problems when I had to change planes with a short time between two flights: i changed at Istanbul, Frankfurt, London and Brussels. The only time my luggage was 'lost' was in London three years ago where they had 6 hours time to transfer my stuff. Arriving in Amsterdam, it was not there but within 24 hours they delivered it perfectly to my house at a time I could say - so no long waiting. BTW that was with British Airways.

Twice. One in Paris and one in Frankfurt. There was about one hour difference. Planes landed about 10 minutes late (an acceptable delay). But after landing taxi movement took about 20 minutes until the planes could come to a complete stop. I had to change the terminals. I could board the planes at the last minute. There was no chance for my suitcases naturally.

Hi Loveprague

this happened to me back in September when my first flight from London to Istanbul was 2 hrs late taking off and i missed my connecting flight but there was no worries, i was very well taken care of the airline put me on the next plane.
my luggage got lost though lol it was still on the orginal flight but it was eventually found.
i do fly Turkish airlines though but im presuming all airlines have simular proceedures , you will be taken care of and not left to find a different flight by yourself.

Hope this puts your mind at rest.

xx

i had to wait 2 hrs at Istanbul for a flight to Ankara so it wasnt too bad, if there had been room on the very next plane then it would have been only a 1 hr wait but they just couldnt get me on that flight so i had to wait for the next one.
im a complete flapper too but having trvelled alone a few times this year im getting used to whats what and im more relaxed , i was exactly the same as you loveprague it went through my mind as well then the dreaded worry happened but now ive been through the experience im happy if it happens again, because i use the same airlines i know (well hope) the treatment will be same if it ever happens again

Kind Regards

Jackie
