Continued heavy snowfall and poor weather conditions paralyze life across Turkey. The far-reaching effects of inclement weather cancel sea transport in Istanbul and block roads elsewhere in the country. Numerous ferry services were canceled in İstanbul. Roads to 582 villages were blocked by heavy snow in Hakkari, Bitlis, Malatya and Sakarya.

Continued heavy snowfall and bad weather conditions paralyze life across Turkey. Wide reaching effects of bad weather conditions cancel sea transport in Istanbul and block roads elsewhere in the country.

Sea transportation is at a halt in İstanbul due to storm as roads and communication are cut in villages Turkey-wide because of heavy snow fall.

İstanbul Fast Ferries Co. Inc. announced that the Eskişehir-Topçular public ferry services were cancelled due to bad weather conditions in Istanbul and the Marmara Sea. The lines where services are currently unavailable are: Fast ferry: Yenikapı-Yalova, Pendik-Yalova, Armutlu Mudanya and Bandırma and Kartal-Yalova departing from Bostancı-Yenikapı; Sea bus: All lines are closed other than İstanbul Boğazı route; Conventional ferry: İstanbul-Bostancı, Adalar, Yalova, Çınarcık; Public ferry: Sirkeci-Harem.

Roads to 582 villages were blocked by heavy snow in Hakkari, Bitlis, Malatya and Sakarya. Over 130 of the villages are in Hakkari, where snow accumulation has reached 20 inches in the city center and 4 feet in elevated areas. Officials reported the Hakkari-Çukurca highway was reopened to traffic late Monday night and snow removal teams are still operating along the Hakkari-Şırnak highway.

Erhan Yılmaz, attorney manager of Bitlis Road Transportation Services, said that roads to 260 villages were closed to traffic in Bitlis. Local Weather Bureau Manager Mehmet Elkatmış also gave the total snow accumulation at 25.59 inches at the city center and in excess of 1 meter in rural areas.

Roads to 11 villages from the city center of Malatya, 22 in Akçadağ 10 in Arapgir, 10 in Arguvan, 19 in Darende, 11 in Doğanşehir, four in Doğanyol, 17 in Hekimhan, seven in Kale, five in Kuluncak, 21 in Pütürge, two in Yazıhan and two in Yeşilyurt were blocked. An official from the Malatya provincial authority said in a statement that roads to 88 villages have been opened since late Monday and that 18 emergency teams were working around the clock.

A written statement by the Sakarya Governorship said that roads to a total of 51 villages were blocked by heavy snow in Sakarya. These are eight villages in Akyazı, two in Geyve, 10 in Hendek, 14 in Kocaeli, nine in Pamukova and eight in Taraklı. 279 villages in Ordu and 27 villages in Adıyaman are currently inaccessible.

Two schools’ roofs were blown off by the storm in Kozan, Adana and many solar energy panels were destroyed. Transportation is not possible in 6,095 residential areas all over Turkey, the Anatolia Agency reported.

Seventeen minor avalanches were reported on the Hakkari-Van highway. Moreover, over 85 villages in Artvin do not have electricity and communication lines are cut with another 42.
