I absolutely agree with you, reBooped! We should have more quality, classic poetry at our forums.
This poem reminded me to a great topic we had once in Poetry Forums, RUSSIAN POETRY, you must remember it, it was one of the most visited and the most successful topic in Poetry and Literature Category. Unfortunately, this great topic is now roaming somewhere in a deep of General/Off topics Universe, removed there during the cleaning Cultural Forums of non-Turkish topics. Pitty, now we have in those forums so many topics that don't deserve to be there - requests for translations, literal tries of our memebers, pop lyrics - and such a topic exiled
I would like to hear other members' opinions about introducing Turkish speakers to world poetry, here, in Poetry and Literature Forums, not in General/Off topics, where, respecting strictly rules, such topics belong.

You read my mind, dear Slavica.
I was thinking same thing when first saw this forum.
It's a pity of course to see that people are not interested in world's literature.
We were working hard to keep that topic alive but lost somehow. Maybe we can gain it back if our classmates will be interested in it like some time ago.
I look forward to see that lovely topic and ready to help.

It's a website about Turkey and Turkish language isn't it? If I want to read Russian Poetry, Latin-American literature or whatever, I will go to a website that offers me that. I'm very interested in Japanese culture and literature (translated!  ) and I found a website that offers me that. So maybe you can start your own website? Or give interested people links to already existing sites?
Though I agree with you that personal poetry, made by a poster him/herself, does not belong in any poetry forum here. It should be General / Off topics or at translations.

I agree with Trudy. If I want to read other than Turkish poetry I don't look for it here on this website...
And I agree with you all that poems written by members of this site to translate into Turkish don't belong in this section.
What I would like to read here is Turkish poetry. Beautiful, interesting, touching, funny, desperate, passionate, hopeful, hopeless - whatever kind of Turkish poetry!

All I wanted to say that here I am more interested in Turkish poetry. And that I am not so interested in the poems members write for their boyfriends.
I did love the poem you posted, Vineyards, and also some of the others you posted and translated. I really appreciate your posts and your translations. I wrote this before.

I agree that the best way to learn about any national culture is to find a website which offers that. And I know, after being member of this website for two years, that it is about Turkey and Turkish language, no need to remind me. But my point was WORLD POETRY IN TURKISH LANGUAGE – for Turkish speakers and those who are interested in reading poetry in Turkish language, no matter of its origin. Of course, I don't insist if most of others think different
Anyway, after your comments seems that Vineyard's efforts to translate foreign poetry to Turkish and post it, together with already translated poetry by other translators, were in vain – which is, of course, not true. As a poetry lover, I can only appreciate Vineyard's work (discussing it at forums or not) and give him support to continue.

Can you explain me what does it mean, Trudy? Was my question rude to provoke such an arrogant answer? Does it mean that everyone who have any idea should start its own website instead of ask others about their opinion? And how can I know who are interested people (to send them links throuhg PMs, I guess) if I don't open the question?
Anyway, let's continue exchanging opinions about what we started - world poetry translated to Turkish in Poetry and Literature forums - yes or no?

I agree with everything you say and I am in support of this too. I must say that exiling some topics is a great idea  not fogetting the life history of someones relationship

Yes, it is... and one of the best ways to learn foregn languages is to read translations of well-known worldwide literature into that language. (This was an excellent exercise for me - to compare Pushkin in Russian, English, Turkish and Serbian.)

Sounds like a sacrilege... What do you think, people, should we put Pushkin amongst "My dearest one, pls, can you send me 200 euros for new mobile, thnk u and I can't wait the day when I will marry you"?
And I think there's no culture which exists by itself... translations like this can only replenish our knowledge our Turkey (e.g. which poetry Turkish people like? why? what are the historical/cultural reasons? what are the possible language barrieres in translating? what are the differences in poetry traditions? etc.) And as I already wrote somewhere, the art of translating is an art too... and deserves its place here.

Read carefully what I wrote: I did NOT say that translated Puskin poems should be at Off Topic or Tranlations. I said that the poems made by members themselves belong there!

1. I was not arrogant, but beauty (and other feelings) is in the eye of the beholder, isn't it?
2. If you just want to translate Russian poetry (that was the subject wasn't it?) into Turkish for learning the language , why not? I do too very appreciate Vineyards work at this (thanks Vineyards  ). I am just not in favour for a seperate section just because it is world poetry. I think for that other sites are better.

İ dont know where to start really,about that topic or what is behind it.
About poetry and literature whether its Turkish or not sure it got its own respect and cant be put either in translation forum or in off the topic Forum.
Whether we are poetry fan or not,but those are jewelleries of each langauge and sure we respect them enough to put them in a suitable place.
About what is behind it,Trudy,its easy for everyone to go and find his or her own interest in some other place.
İts a wide net,a wide range of sites.
But the thing or the point is to have your own friends in a place which you feel it as its your home,you belong there
So you want to bring all what is lovely and beautiful to you home,to share it with your family there.
that is what TC was,and that is what it is lack now .
And as i said before Slavica doesn't give up,and she trys to bring the spirit back again,to bring family together arround something beautiful can draw everyone attention.
İ had a thread here,called 'İ LOVE YOU' and it was in every language not just in Turkish, review and see how many people join in it,and how many people has read it .
İ guess that proves Slavica point in what she is doing too.
Doğru mu ?

Yes, I do understand. I just have a different point of view. Sharing things we love at home? Great. But then anyone can open topics about any other country, football or other sports, economical interest (including dayly rates at stock markets), politics - home and world, religion (can I discuss Shintoism here?) and many more. Just because they love that and want to share.
Or is there a kind of balloting about the subjects? Only world class literature? Only Greek philosophers? Only ....? Who will decide?
What I just mean is that this forum is so great because it is about Turkey. And topics not about Turkey or not used for the language should in my opinion be at 'General/ Off Topic'. How important they are for some, mixing other things with the Turkish part, makes this forum less valuable. The site will loose it special charactre and become a general forum. But again, that's my point of view.
