CURRENCY

Hi,

I live in the UK and am travelling to Istanbul shortly can anyone tell me what the best currency to take is. I can either get Sterling, Euro or New Turkish lira.

We were in Turkey last October and took mostly Lira but some Sterling. Lira was the preferred currency in most places although many accepted Sterling. Either way, changing Sterling to Lira is easy.

Do remember though that you need a clean (not tatty) £10 note to get in at the airport. Do not take a £20 note as no change is given and it is one note per person!!!

Be careful; only YTL(Yeni Türk Lirası-New Turkish Lira) is valid now. Don't accept TL (Turkish Lira). You can easily distinguish YTL and TL by looking at the zeros on money.
