Today's papers have news from BMI (British Midlands airlines) that they will start a daily direct flight between Ankara and Heathrow on 29 October. No need to go via Istanbul any more!

The price will be 290 euro (not clear if taxes are included in this or not).

Timetable:
Depart Ankara 10:45 arrive Heathrow 13:25
Depart Heathrow 12:00 arive Ankara 18:05

BMI is part of the Star Alliance group.

BMED already did have a direct flight, a franchise of BA, but that franchise is now being dis-banded - guess when!! 29th October, so I guess the new franchise is with BMI. And bearing in mind that BA have a horrendous record of losing baggage and delayed cancelled flights, beware!!!!!! Turkish airlines also fly direct.

This is the email I received - just found it so I thought I would post!!

British Airways' franchise agreement with BMED finishes on 27 October 2007, and I would like to let you know about how this will affect your future travel arrangements on these routes.

Until 27 October, all BMED flights will continue to operate as normal.

From 28 October, all BMED services will be operated by bmi and will move from their current base at London Heathrow Terminal 4 to London Heathrow Terminal 1. BMED flights arriving at London Heathrow on 28 October will arrive into London Heathrow Terminal 1. British Airways will codeshare with bmi when the franchise terminates* and its flight numbers, currently listed as BA6500-6699, will change to BA7500-7599.

If you have booked a flight on or after 28 October we will contact you separately to advise you of the changes to your journey.

For further information please visit http://www.ba.com

yes BA do have a pretty bad record when it comes to losing baggage.I would not like that to happen to me!I am flying from manchester to ankara via istanbul with turkish airlines on wednesday.Personally i find it annoying that i can only get a direct flight to ankara from London which obviously increases my travel costs not to mention the inconvenience of it so i end up doing one stop in istanbul. How rude.

Offfffffffff its the norm for ME Everytime I have to fly it means an hours boat trip and 3 hours taxi trip before I even reach the airport! Count your blessings lol

BA are still great (despite the luggage "problem"). They have their own terminal plus you get free drinks and superior service in economy! What more can a girl ask for lol

I never flied! What is it? What does it look like? Is it something eatable or smellable? Or you use it for cleaning your lavatories?

I have never FLOWN. Ama...I really really like yours better. I will start a campaign to put FLIED into the Oxford English Dictionary! lol

NB The past tense for the act of flying is flew. I.e. "the bird flew out of the tree"
