I am planning to travel to Istanbul in november but my parents and family are concerned about the latest problems with the PKK.Is it safe for me to travel now or should i wait till things calm down?I am not going to travel alone but with groups of tourists and we're travelling by bus.

Sorry but when was it not safe? What gave them the idea it was not safe?

If you mean crossing the road, then no it is not safe lol or getting past the carpet sellers lol It is no less safe than other big city, and I would not think twice about going again - but I would think twice before travelling to London.

Are you serious?!? Its more dangerous in London than Istanbul!

Well, in fact, Istanbul IS less safe now that those human-eating Turks have finished ramadan. They will eat you at all times of the day or night now.

Its probably best to walk around in groups of no less than 50 and be sure you carry a machine gun...

lol ok ok I get the point but I have a friend in istanbul, mert and he said that it IS better to wait a little because he says they are afraid now being in crowded places in case someone from kurdish people does something bad.I am totally in love with Turkey (apart from being in love with my ex-boyfriend who is turk) so i don't care much.I just wanna go....

There HAVE been a few bomb attacks by the PKK, but most were in tourist resorts. However, if the bombers want maximum impact they would do it during the busiest tourist months I guess.

There have been less terrorist attacks in Turkey than in the UK

Oh stop winding people up!

I agree with Libralady, Istanbul is as safe or unsafe as any other major city in the world depending on how you look at it. I would try to be reasonable and not get carried away with thinking a terrorist attack is going to happen every second people the chances are very slim. You have much more chance of being pick pocketed than being a victim of a PKK attack in my view.

I went to Istanbul a couple of weeks after a Dutch tourist was killed by a bomb in one of the small restaurants on the Galata Bridge and we walked along the place where it happened. If you always worry about what might happen you will never do anything - there will never be a good time!

Istanbul is a city - NOT a tourist resort!!!! It attracts tourists like anyother big city, but its hardly a resort. OK, to be specific, I should have said "tourist resorts in the south of Turkey!
