Femme thinks that ALL Western people censor themselves and don't speak their minds because of political correctness. People, why do you do that?????

I have been forever accused of being politically incorrect, but in reality, I think Femme has a valid point. People in America are way to sensitive to hurting peoples feelings, not because of a sense of propriety. Nobody really gives a crap about anyone, but we are afraid of being sued. We have been conditioned to deny our feelings and suppress our real thoughts so that we can keep our material wealth. I say to hell with it...I don't have any material wealth anyway!

I think tact is important because without that people are not going to listen to you anyway. Communication is about getting your point across and if you are too caustic in your approach people won't listen. I am very blunt and I've noticed people either appreciate it or are really weirded out by it. I have gotten more tactful over the years and have noticed people are able to hear what I am saying much better (and I have more friends). I appreciate people who let me know what they are thinking and feeling, I do respond better though if it is done with a little care and concern.

I don't think there's any such thing as political correctness, it's all political brainwashing (very much like in communism and such). When you're in Turkey, you can't criticize Turkey, but you can criticize openly everything else. When you're in Europe you can't criticize Islam... etc. etc... It's all about politics, political allies, political interests and how people are brainwashed.

As far as interpersonal communication, I agree with Badia.

Political correctness is not about being tactful, it is about hiding your true feelings. Personally, if I ask someone a question, I would prefer to know the truth.

Thank God I no longer work in a PC office! I am now aware that I work with a mysogynist git, a man with feminist views and a few other mixed bags! Much better than having everyone give you their false "work face" then disappearing off to the men's room to joke about which female exec they would most like to shag!

Wow, no one has ever called me boring before! But Femme should go into giving horoscopes like the other post on here...this one fits me perfectly!
i more than love myself.
and i love being adored.
and cant stand any criticism.

Now if you could just make it rhyme it would be perfect.

I more than love myself
and like to be adored
Keep my feelings on the shelf
and Femme gets really bored

Here is one for Femme:

I treat people really bad
and expect they'll be my friend
Then I pretend to be sad
another mean message I send

My meter is off yes, any corrections to my boring personality poems are welcome!

May you have long life then Femme. However, if we ever were to accidentally agree on something and become friends. I have seen you slip and be nice a few times. Or if we join the same gang and HAVE to be friends...if you need any advice on how to follow through on your threat effectively let me know. General guidelines are: pills are least effective, multiple methods are most effective.

Math Illiterates Mutual Admirers Club!

I want to join...watch this!
If a train were traveling 60 km North at 45 miles an hour and a car were driving on the highway at 80 km at a 45 degree angle toward the same destination. If they both left at the same time who would arrive first?
I DON'T KNOW! Were there any mountains in between? Did the train start on time? Is it in Turkey because then the train might have left late and the guy in the car is speeding like crazy and passing without regard to oncoming traffic... It has something to do with a triangle and a rule about the sides. OH NO...I don't even know where to start.

OK...do I qualify to be a member?

I recently saw America's Next Top Model (don't ask - ok) and got a bit uncomfortable hearing one of the contestants say "I am a proud black woman" That got me thinking. Would it be ok if I said "I am a proud white woman" on tv? Or is political correctness double standards? Would saying "I am a woman and I'm proud of that" be treated the same way as "I am a man and I'm proud of that?"

Daydreamer if you got on American TV and called yourself a proud white woman, you would be labeled a racist. The ACLU would boycott the television station and you would be the talk of every news program on CNN and Fox news. In other words, you would be more famous than America's top model AND you could keep your IQ Scores! lol

Actually I don't understand the pride thing at all. We are what we are, and hopefully, we try to make the best of what we are.

Isn't pride one of the big seven?

'Pride Pride
In almost every list pride (or hubris or vanity) is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins, and indeed the ultimate source from which the others arise. It is identified as a desire to be more important or attractive than others, failing to give compliments to others though they may be deserving of them, and excessive love of self (especially holding self out of proper position toward God). Dante's definition was 'love of self perverted to hatred and contempt for one's neighbor.' In Jacob Bidermann's medieval miracle play, Cenodoxus, pride is the deadliest of all the sins and leads directly to the damnation of the titulary famed Parisian doctor. In perhaps the best-known example, the story of Lucifer, pride (his desire to compete with God) was what caused his fall from Heaven, and his resultant transformation into Satan. Vanity and narcissism are prime examples of this sin. In Dante's Divine Comedy, the penitent were forced to walk with stone slabs bearing down on their backs in order to induce feelings of humility.'

7 Deadly Sins

Alameda, I am an atheist so the notion of 7 deadly sins is just a lot of crap to me.

Elisabeth, you're right. Now, how fair is it that black people can be proud of their roots and white cannot? Sorry, I come from a country without a long history of slavery so this issue is incomprehensible to me.

It's called double standards and the ACLU.. Here's a little quiz..I'm an employer based in the U.S. Just recently lost 10 million in premium and I'm forced to go through a RIF (Reduction in Force). I need to eliminate a Nurse. I compare everyones performance and longevity. I'm having to make a decision on two colleagues one to retain and one to eliminate. Both are women over the age of 40 perform relatively the same. One African American and the other white.. Who do you think I'm going to retain? GG will know this..

I think I can guess. There was a joke a while ago about an employer being forced to make somebody of his team redundant. His team were an African-American guy, a white woman and a white man. The African-American threatened to sue him for racism, the woman threatened to sue him for sexism so there seemed to be the only logical choice. As the boss turned towards the white guy he said "You know, I think I'm gay"

I'm really glad Europe is not yet as hypercorrect
