Here is an article from The Independent, about the battle of Gallipoli in World War I. This battle is very important in Turkish history and it was interesting to read this article written from a British point of view.

Homage to Heroism - article text

The site of this huge battle can be visited today in Gallipoli (Gelibolu) - Dardanelles (Çanakkale). Every year on the 25th of April, thousands of people from Australia and New Zealand, namely ANZACs come to Gallipoli to commemorate the landing of Australian and New Zealand forces on Gallipoli on April 25th, 1915.

Thanks Admin for posting this.

I found the article fascinating. A welcome relief from love and Turkish boyfriends

I have expressed my admiration for Ataturk before. I think he is truly underestimated and underreported in the UK. I have put a small quote from the article below, i hope some of you reading it might be interested in reading the article.

"...Ataturk gave one of the most moving speeches of reconciliation ever given at a battlefield, ending with the lines: "There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side in this country of ours. You, the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well..."

I also found this a moving speech, and the (English) writer of the article gave full credit to Ataturk for making it.

Bravo Admin! This was a good article.

Tesekkurer ederim.
