just start, but have determination,its not easy.

just learn basic everyday things first.the ones you can use to introduce yourself and tell a little about your self.Learn polite greetings and slowly build up your vocab.
I have learnt by going into the chat room and actually speaking to turks ,they are always very helpful ,and understanding if and when you make mistakes ,but dont be afraid to ask for help in the chatroom,some kind and helpful turks are willing to help you learn their language

If you want to learn Turkish completely, look at the left side of this website. You can see learning pages. If you are not interested in it seriously, and only want to speak a bit in order to understand well-used and famous sayings in practical life, then just try to chat online. By chatting, you don't need to learn rules, so you won't get confuse about the reasons etc. Just memorizing is the best way for using a language.

I want to understand the rules not just a few phrases (I already have that). I'm checking out the classes on this site. Thanks for the reply

 I very much liked this advice. but unfortunatly sometimes we learners are too embaresed to chat for our knowlege in lanuage is very limited. but may be yavaş yavaş and after a couple of chats one would be encouraged.

Personaly i find reading and sometimes contributing to the translation forums useful although in either ways constancy is very important.

Hello Rapt!

Your Quote: "Could someone please offer advice on the best way to learn the language....where do start? "

( ME AND LANGUAGES:

You would like some advice on the best way to learn Turkish language?

I am learning Spanish and next Mandarin Chinese, for these are the most benefical spoken languages. I might bounce back to Turkey if it gets charted and qualified as a bigger language. )

The best way to learn ANY language is having a book that shows how to pronouce the word(s). EXAMPLE: To say ´the giraffe´ in Spanish it would be ´la jirafa´. How would you say this? As you read the word you most likely pronouced it ´lah-gi-rah-fah´. That would be wrong, the correct way to say and read this is ´lah-hee-ra-fa´.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Learning Language List For Raft:
#1.) Find a book with pronunciation and translation and study hard.
#2.) Practice speaking the words after reading and form sentences.
#3.) Practive for AT LEAST 2 hours everyday.  Find some friends in the language and speak, read everything in print on the language you learning. IMMERSE YOURSELF in your desired language.
The biggest mistake I find others doing is pronouncing words wrong with makes them look like a donkey. ;0 (Not a good thing)
Good Question!,
Amber
