Stop this glamorizations of Ankara!!
For me, the happiest moments of Ankara have always been the times when I was coming back to Istanbul..

sentences from a stateless person. I'm not surprised.

Apparently it was Yahya Kemal..
(I thought it was 'sait faik' first.. )

Well..actually..for a person who is a an istanbulie, living in Ankara will be like 'a seagull living in steppe'.

I know exactly what you mean. I too have heard this phrase but not related to a Turkish location. oooooooh!

I think it's one of those phrases that has become common in many countries.

I once heard it put this way too:

The best thing about x x x x is the sign as you're leaving "z z z z" 120 miles.

or

The best thing about x x x is the road out of there.

My dead says about a place in Scotland, "there are only 2 good things about that place . . . the whisky and the road out.
