"....... In escalating discomfort, Abed turned to his friend only to find him this time making huge holes in the napkin with his fountain pen.

"What the hell are you doing now?"

"I am putting the dots of my name back to their places," groaned the other guy, peering desolately at the cobalt ink

spots spinning upon the letters of his name, each dot dissolving softly on the napkin, getting bigger as it disintegrated, as if to prove that one way of becoming more visible to the eyes of others in this life was to get as far as possible from your innermost seed: . . . .

When you leave your homeland behind, they say, you have to renounce at least one part of you. If that was the case, Ömer knew exactly what he had left behind: his dots!

Back in Turkey, he used to be ÖMER ÖZSİPAHİOĞLU.
Here in America, he had become an OMAR OZSIPAHIOGLU.

His dots were excluded for him to be better included...."

Well at least the spelling without dots made it possible for the Americans to pronounce his name ...or? If America in fact was a part of Europe (as Mr Bush said in an interview) I'm not so sure that the joke below would be just a joke...

The European Union commissioners have announced that agreement has been reached to adopt English as the preferred language for European communications, rather than German, which was the other possibility. As part of the negotiations, Her Majesty's Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a five-year phased plan for what will be known as Euro English (Euro for short).

In the first year, "s" will be used instead of the soft "c". Sertainly, sivil servants will resieve this news with joy. Also, the hard "c" will be replaced with "k." Not only will this klear up konfusion, but typewriters kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year, when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced by "f". This will make words like "fotograf" 20 per sent shorter.

In the third year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible. Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling. Also, al wil agre that the horible mes of silent "e"s in the languag is disgrasful, and they would go.

By the fourth year, peopl wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing"th" by "z" and "W" by "V". During ze fifz year, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou", and similar changes vud of kors; be aplid to ozer kombinations of leters.

After zis fifz yer, ve vil hav a reli sensibl riten styl. Zer vil b no mor trubls or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech ozer. Ze drem vil finali kum tru.

It's sad that many who come to the US loose their name with the new spelling of their names.

The resultant pronunciation often bears little similarity in sound or meaning to their actual names.

There should be some sort of council that lets them know beforehand what can happen to their names before they accept the new spelling.

Dr Oz has done well on Oprah's show. Dotless he is still an amazing success!
