Quoting caliptrix:

Quoting catwoman:

Caliptrix, I see your point, but I think you are exaggerating a little.

Am I the person who exaggerates? And what are these photos? No exaggeration?

Quote:

I assure you that as a non-Muslim, such thoughts are definitely NOT what I think when I see these pictures. Every
person who has half a brain will know that in every ideology/religion there are extremes and that's what this picture shows.

That's good for you. But as not everyone is like me, not everyone is like you either. I am asked too many times whether Islam or Turks are like that. What does it mean? Let me tell you what I understand: There are many people who don't have any idea about the life of Turkey or Islam, and when they see these type photos, they are about to get prejudiced as if this were our lifestyle. They fear from Islam as well. This fear is not "OHHH noo!! HELP!" << The fear is not like this. They only get far from things because of the feeling of chill/coldness.

I cant see any exaggeration at all in those pictures.
And anybody, who knows a little bit about 'what is what', clearly will know that those pictures are not from Turkey.

They have nothing to do with Turkey and why should they give people ideas about the life of Turkey?

But however, they may give an idea about Islam.
And what ever the idea, you think they are giving, is true.

can you deny that serious number of people are living the way those pictures are showing?

Can you deny that by wearing those burkas, they think, they are following the rules of a religion.

What makes you think that you know better that religion than them?

If those pictures are going to make people fear from Islam, why dont you post some pictures to counter balance it?

why is it always the case that islamists coming up with the same idea such as 'banning them, stop putting them up, stop publishing them etc'

Again, I will repeat, when you see some one posting a picture, showing women in burkas or turbans, you feel offended and you feel that it is insulting to your belief, check again 'how strong your belief is'

(btw. calip, for the same context, I can find and put some images from Turkey, which will embarres both you and me. I am sure you have seen many of them in the papers.)

Pictures in themselves aren't the main problem. Sometimes it's the reason for displaying the picture that causes the problem. Or who has displayed the picture.

It seems that people sometimes like to post with an element of ambiguity. Threads sometimes trail off into semantic neverland.

btw if somebody finds such pics unacceptable does that make them an Islamist? Do people have to be Muslims to decide such pics may not be appropriate?

And before anyone posts the popular phrase "It works both ways". I know that, but it doesn't make it any more acceptable.

Just some personal observations that's all.
