For along time on this site, disccussion oriented to damage and offend our National Emotions. I wont give the names but some members encouraged by moderators or Admin. criticizing is different, criticizin is different.

If you think that a discussion about Andimiz is oriented this way, then you should feel guilty as you started it. I'm sure you had known that people would start commenting on it. What did you expect?

it was not discussion about andımız.it was information for foreign ppl on that site who is learning Turkey and Turkish and turkish culture till some members (anti turks, anti islamist) started to bad postings.

Also, what criticism is in your opinion?

Quote:

most of the turkish ppl like to do it. and we will live like this forever. We read Andımız in the morning for years and our chidren will read it in the future too. we read about Ataturk and even now we learn many things from him and our chidren will learn how to protect from his thoughts in the future.

That's a bit strong. Isn't that your opinion? I k now many Turks who don't agree with you on this one. And I'm sure there are as many people who think like you as there are people of a different opinion. You can't be sure what the situation will be like in the future. You may wish to have it like this, but you're not Prime Minister (or did we miss something?)

how many turkish u knew?? more than me???how u are so sure about your opinion?

Quote:

if somethings come strange to you. just respect millions of turkish people and dont write bad comments.

I'm sure people who come here respect Turks. They however have the right not to admire everything that goes on there.

could u tell me some members who dont post any bad post here elisabeth, daydreamer, catmoman, lady in red, and some turks who are adore of western

I believe every country has its own habits and rituals, which should be respected.

I agree with that but what we are talking about here is racism and right to criticize of racism.
Racism is racism everywhere.
It should not be tolerated.
The nationalists (some of them though) in Turkey have no idea that the nationalism they know is nothing to do with the nationalism Ataturk was trying to create 100 years ago.
Nationalism was hijacked in 1940s by the fascist racists.
What they are right now is not better than, le pen in france or bnp in the uk or neo nazis in germany.

Terrorism is terrorism everywhere too. when I said terrorism should not be tolerated. u called me racist. u said we must understand them. Ataturk created a country on a wreckage. and now u are trying to show it insignificant. Ataturk nationalism is not racism if u read about Ataturk.

As an example of cultural insensitivity let's look at these two comments about a photograph of young men kissing the hands of the older respected men in a village on Bayram. This is a very respected tradition in Turkey. Instead of making "witty" and disrespectful remarks, would it not have been better to actually find out what the photos were about?

http://www.turkishclass.com/forumTitle_7_28932

lady in red said: Well, I think......that they have all been down at the Men's Club drinking raki and turkish tea and this is the very long queue for the only tuvalet in the village.

Elisabeth said: well, you see, Roswitha...the first picture is the men's definition of work (standing around patting eachother on the back)...the second is a woman's definition of work (pulling an ox cart).

How to you think such comments make people feel? Are they respectful?

It is easy to cross over and insult people without the intention or even knowledge of one having done that when in discourse with diverse cultures. In this forum I think we need to be more attentive to cultural sensitivities.

Obviously the line has been crossed here. Instead of insisting one is right, how about trying to actually be more culturealy respectful?

Now let's get ready for the flames about my comment, which are sure to follow. Sorry, I do have another life and can not be here all the time to comment.

Careful you two. You will be charged with going off topic purely to cause insult to another member. Oh the horror!

Your punishment will be to have to endure more of this nonsense!

OK FINE! If Alameda was Turkish, she would still have no sense of humor!
