Birbiri ardına söndürdüğü izmaritler, kül tablasını doldurmuştu.

I cant see the mistake as a native speaker but I will ask this sentence to Turkish Language and Literature teachers in my school.

I got the point.( Because I called her )
İzmarit söndürülmez.
Sigara söndürülür.
She says,
"This is a misusage.Everbody use it, but it shouldn't be used like that."
thus;
"Birbiri ardına söndürdüğü sigaralar,kül tablasını doldurmuştu."
