The unnamed woman from Riyadh was beaten and shot after she was discovered in the middle of an online conversation with a man, the al-Arabiya website reported.
The case was reported on a Saudi Arabian news site as an example of the "strife" the social networking site is causing in the Islamic nation.
(Thankful of "International Campaign against honor killing" for the report.)

Read the forum rules before posting!  According to the wishes of most people here, we modified the forum rules to allow discussions about everything.
If you have specific complaints about moderators/admins, you can send a PM to Admin with an explanation.

hehe. I know who are these "most of the ppl".when did u modified rules. before this post???
3 members wanted and it was accepted now I can understand why ppl left this site. because u post unrelated things with "turkishclass web site". people come to this site for learninf turkish and turkey, not for daily news.

Sorry, but typically my reading doesn't include women getting beat to death in Saudi.. So, I think it's good to post topics like this to make an awareness.
Jan.it would be nice to see some response by you to this topic directly. What consequences should this father face and should she have had every right to be on facebook with out being beaten to death. Just curious.

This is outrageous. But I don't think it is because of religion, it is because of society which is strictly patriarchal and women's place in the hierarchy is right behind farm animals. I wonder what the punishment to the father will be.

It seems to me, as someone who reads often but doesn't post often, that people would leave turkishclass because of the constant bickering back and forth over forum rules. The reason I don't post often is because I fear anything I might write will be pounced on and attacked.
Surely everyone (not spammers) here has a common denominator--they enjoy turkey, it's culture, the language, and want to know more!--otherwise we wouldn't be a member here. Does that mean we have to be ignorant of current events? The last time I was in Turkey, these issues are the very things my Turkish friends and I discussed! I don't think I've met a Turkish person, passionate about their country, who wasn't eager to discuss politics and religion--in Turkey and elsewhere!
I have made several really good friends as a direct result of turkishclass. This would not have been possible without heartfelt discussions ranging a wide array of topics. And, at the end of the day, everything does relate back to Turkey: the main reason we are all here. Each of us, whether it be our spouse, our friends, where we visit, where we live, have a love of Turkey and the people. Is the aim of this site not to spread the joy of Turkey to all? Then please don't chase away precious members by nitpicking/criticizing everything they say.
