Seeing as we call it the Queen's English, it must be the Queen!

Seriously, yılgün, I think the TDK is an example of a control-economy mentality idea, that is often out of touch with reality (çok oturaklı götürgeç?)

They often try to stop developments in the vernacular. English is a free language, like many, developing by usage,
and not controlled.

In the UK the main respected body is the compilers of the Oxford English Dictionary. Instead of compiling "pure English words" to replace new words, they regularly add new words into their dictionary from common usage.

I'd certainly hope so - I hate the US English (esp the southern nasal twang. I quite enjoy the Ozzie "ai" and "oi" diphthongs As for English in Eire - it took me a while to get used to it but it still does sound a bit funny to me!

7-PORTUGUESE
8-TURKISH
9-BENGALI
10-GERMAN
11-JAPANESE

ENGLISH is the first language in

1-AUSTRALIA
2-THE BAHAMAS
3-CANADA
4-EIRE
5-GUYANA
6-JAMAICA
7-NEW ZEALAND
9-THE UNITED KINGDOM
10-THE UNITED STATES

ENGLISH is the official second language in

HON KONG
INDIA
ISRAEL
PAKISTAN
THE PHILIPPINES
SOUTH AFRICA
KENYA
UGANDA
SUDAN
NIGERIA
etc

Millions of people are learning English.Why?
Because it is the most important international language in the world.
That is 20 % of the world's population speak English.
But how did it become so important?

English at work and play=Politics, Pop music, Computing, TV and film, Science and Medicine, Economics, Business, Air and Sea Travel, The Olympic Games, BBC.

SHAKESPEARE'S ROLE

W.Shakespeare has played an important role for internatonal English.
Shakespeare's plays had a vocabularly of about 30,000 words.
Even today, few people have a vocabularly of more than 15,000 words.

OXFORD DICTIONARY

The first English dictionary appeared in 1775.
It contained more than 40,000 words.
Today, the Oxford English Dictionary contains half a million words.

AMERICAN ENGLISH

Languages change all the time like an organism.
If they do not, they die.
But how will English Language change in the next century?
Will it become several smaller languages like American English, Australian English, Caribbean English, Canadian English, African English and so on?

THE FUTURE

English grammar will change more and more quickly in the future.
Is English becoming more than one language?
Or will another international language take its place?

In my opinion everyone will speak English soon.Why?Because, now, English words have started to become a part of other languages.

In my opinion the second language of the future is Chinese.Why? Because Chinese people are 20 of the world population.

And TURKISH? Turkish will be an important language of the world. Why? Because the historical origins of the Turkish language are in Asia, Anatolia, Middle East and other parts of the World.

Who is ruling the world languages? Maybe, the science, high technology, arts and literature, and the other side of the planet; who knows?

Yilgin, this is impressive! You have taken alot of time putting this together. One reason English is widely spoken around the world, is because of the British Commonwealth. English also contains many French and Latin words and words derived from French, Latin and Greek.

Honaray = Latin Honarrius
Honour = Latin Honor
Quorum = Latin, quotus
Pseudonym = Greek, pseudes
Questionnaire = French, Questionnaire

As far as I know Spanish is the fastest growing language in the world.

Very true...in fact English really is quite an amalgam of many languages...

Chinese, although spoken by many, is one of the most difficult to learn due to the very large amount of characters to have to remember and learn to read and write.
