the first part of its name (meaning 'heroic') was added by Ataturk in recognition of the town's successful expulsion of French and British troops in 1920.

Actually, this reminded me how this ice cream is sold in holiday resorts.

Little kiosks, traditional dressed young turkish men and their nasty jokes..

They put the ice cream on the cone and extend it to customers with a huge metal spoon. But before the ladies grab the cone, they lift it up and they think, they are making jokes!!

The annoying thing is the dilemma you face. Of course, if you are the man with the lady!

The dilemma is weather you loose your cool and punch the ice cream seller because he is making your gf/partner etc laugh (and consequently making you jealous) or preserve your cool and try to smile, which is not going to be very convincing when you frown and think the punching option after each joke.

But there is a solution to this problem of course:

Just say to the person, you are with, 'hang on a min darling, you wait here. I will go and get the ice cream for us'. And avoid all this very complicated issue all together.
Or just be a man and warn your partner in advance that she should not be laughing that much to jokes from any man, because you are a Turk.

Hehehe I loved this! I sympathise with you thehandsom. I hate these kind of "jokes" where you feel obliged to laugh and smile but inside you want to punch them hard

I hope my partner won't be too jealous by me laughing at handsom (not the joke!) right now!!! This is ridiculous! :-S

I remember when our tour guide brought us to a kiosk with ice-cream and the "give-take back show" started, everyone was hysterical. After a minute one lady approached the guide and asked him with fear in her voice if everyone will have to go through this procedure before getting the ice-cream lol

I love the icecream joke by the fez wearing icecream seller! I watched the spectical for ages from a bar, then decided that I could actually grab the icecream and spoil his trick. So I went to get my icecream but I forgot that 3 glasses of Efes distorts your judgement!
