They are not really movie stars, looks like mechanic fashion models

I have missed the real old movie stars.

How can you know that the people of ´that time´ didnt see them the same way like we see our movie stars now? Peoples ideas of what is aesthetic change over the years, and what may seem ´old fashionably pure and real´ to you, may have seemed ´ordinary and mechanic fashion model´ to them at that time.

I could not disagree with your thesis more. But I have read the movie history and todays movie as a hobby. And I have seen a lot of films from all over the world. And I have watched movie festivals.I have discussed with some movie critics in Ýstanbul and Ankara. This is my viewpoint.

I believe many people are interested and knowledgeable in movies and their history, and am dubious that your opinion should be deemed right based on the fact that you have had some discussion with some movie critics.....

You say in an earlier post that there has not been a truly great film for years.  What do you base this on?   Is it merely the glamour of the old "movie star" that you miss?

There is certainly a lot of crap out there, but then there has always been crap films (the old ´B´ movies were churned out of studios at a huge rate).  However, the "great" films are even better than ever and far less "hammy" than films from the 1940s-1950s.  There have been truly great films made in the last few decades:-  Schlinders List, The Pianist, Road to Perdition, The Talented Mr. Ripley (one of my favourites), Motorcycle Diaries. The Godfather, Goodfellas, Jean de Florette, The Deer Hunter, Midnight Cowboy, Cinema Paradiso, Pulp Fiction... I could list on and on.

Are none of these films appealing to you? Maybe you are watching the wrong type of movies!

Good film.

But have you not seen any of the others?  You don´t rate them as good?

Road to Perdition (2002) - Probably one of the best examples of cinematography since ´Citizen Kane´.

The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999) - Stunning- beautiful direction by Anthony Minghella and haunting music.

Any of the others?  Are you sure you are not judging modern movies by the vile celebrity culture that surrounds us?

I would add ´Last Picture Show´ to that list - I watched it yet again this week on TV here - I could add loads more but that was the one that sprung to mind immediately.  You mentioned ´Cinema Paradiso´  - how about ´Il Postano´?.  There is a huge variety of amazing films out there to be watched!  And anyway, what do critics know?  lol

For TheAenigma=

Thank you.

Yes you are right.

I have seen 1-Godfather, 2-Schlinders List, and 3-The Pianist. It is about a jews story in the World War II, Grmany.

Good movie story, good sceneria.Good players.

I think movie star and good player are very different things.

Yes they play very good. They are good actors/actresses.

But they are not movie stars like Marlon Brando, James Dean, Greta Garbo, Anthony Quinn, Ingrid Bergman, etc..

I see you choose good films. You are a good viewer.

I have not seen the other films. But I want to watch them.I will go to Kuþadasý, near Bodrum, next year.We all can watch them when I come to there next year.Maybe, who knows?Small world?
