Austrian police are continuing to question an elderly man who admitted holding his daughter in a cellar for 24 years and fathering her seven children.

what is happening to Modern European???They are good at telling civilization to other nations???
EU has to change or revised their laws to prevent children abuse...if this happen in my country, EU would add another step to Turkey for joining EU...

I agree with you Lappi, it's unbelievable that this can happen isn't it? I'm not sure whether it says in the BBC article, but on tv they said that there were 3 kids of 18, 15 and 5 (or so) who had néver in their lives seen the sun (or anything else for that matter). I wonder where these sick minds come from.. :-S. Also, it is the 2nd case happening in Austria.. I am afraid that more of these cases are to be found in other countries too..

I agree with both of you.
terrible treatment, awful attitude and lack of any virtues.
What is happening to modern Europeans? They became too modern, seeing a straw in other nations eyes not seeing the huge tree in theirs.
Moreover such cases are not exclusive, there are more that still have not been revealed into public eyes.
Children´s abusers can be found even in UNICEF

This is a joke!!!! Of course there will always be maniacs in any country. However, there are very clear laws about child abuse and they will be applied, of course.

Please let me know when people are not afraid in your country to report child abuse by family members and marital rape, and show me court cases to prove it, and then perhaps we can see Turkey become part of the "modern Europe" you mention

I disgree with you both..
you have no idea about the statistics regarding incest relations/rapes in eastern countries (including Turkey)

I agree.... in addition the statistics are likely to be lower as people are afraid to report such things.

Yeah it's true that statistics are not always reliable, but there's a difference between incest and incest+locking someone up for 24 years :-S.

Obviously every country has its own problems..

There is certainly a BIG difference to having the odd psychopath/mentally insane/paedophile, and having a culture which traditionally covers up paedophilia, incest and marital rape to keep "honour" within families...

It is also good that we openly talk about this case...and not try to pretend that our countries have no faults.

this kind of event is not often here in Turkey so it is difficult to make a proof.EU has their own laws on human rights that is just for european(one Turkish young has recently died at police office)...We turks strictly protest children abuses in EU..
