Hi Everyone. I'm new to this and I hope i'm not repeating a topic which has already been covered...

I am English but I live and work in Izmir. I'm getting married next year to a Turkish man, in Turkey. Does anyone know what procedures I need to follow in order to get married in Turkey? I know I need some kind of form which states i'm not already married and I know about the blood tests etc. But as for the paperwork, does anyone know if I need to go to England to get this form.

Any info would be gratefully received

I've just been through all this so it's still fairly fresh in my mind.

From your side, you need to obtain a certificate of non-impediment. Usually from the local registrar in the UK but as you are in Izmir I think you can get one from the local consulate. You'll need your passport and birth certificate showing parent's names. It will take at least 21 days though, the notice of intent to marry has to be displayed.
This certificate has to be translated into Turkish which the consulate will do for a fee (possibly an all inclusive with the non-impediment certificate).

From there you must register with the governor's office. Don't think it matters which one. We reigstered in Antalya but got married in Datca.

Your future husband, being Turkish will have to have a blood test, being English you might not. You need to check with the registry office that you intend to marry at. In Fethiye I didn't need to but in Datca I did. The blood test, I believe, is purely for information only (unless they discover you are related!!) and shouldn't prevent marriage whatever the outcome.

The only other think to do is to book the registrar and get all the paperwork signed off at the same time. I had to fill out a form at the registrars which was then signed and stamped by a senior official in the office. Just name, address, etc;

Tip; get lots of photographs taken. I was told to take 12 with me.

Thanks everyone! I went to the consulate yesterday and realised just how simple it is to get married. I can stop stressing about it now! I was surprised as i'm sure you know, being a foreigner in this country normally means lots of bureacracy. Thanks again!
