I have been to one in Turkey and found it very very relaxing. Also, I dont think I have ever felt so clean and refreshed as after going there

If you want, I can take you there on our honeymoon and give you a hamam-massage şekerim

Then go to a unisex hamam like you find in the hotels

I save money on paying for a masseur by going together with Kadir to a unisex one

So how does it work? Do you have to undress completely..? Is somebody actually giving you a scrub and wash? Couldn't you get an infection..?

So the hotel hamams are different then the regular ones?

Yes. There are authentic ones, which have seperate rooms for men and women and there are unisex ones like you find in the hotels. They are accesible for both men and women and you keep your bathclothing on.

It usually consists of a warmed 'belly stone' in the middle, surrounded by walls that have watertaps with cold and warm water and deep iron plates that you can put water in. You can 'hire' a masseur, a man or a woman, and you lay on the warmed stone in the middle and they give you a washing massage with lots of soap. Actually they have this funny thing which looks like a panty and creates loads of soap Then they wash off the soap of your body by splashing water from the iron plate that they took from the watertap.

Well there are hotel hamams which are just the same except they are accesible for men and women at the same time, and they are a little smaller than a traditional one I think!

Are there hamams that you undress completely? I also went to an 'imitation traditional hamam' with some girlfriends, but we just kept our bathclothing on.

Yes. You can hire one, have your partner do it, or do it yourself by sitting next to a water tap.

Not anymore than in the sea or a regular pool I think!

Thank you for the information DK, you make it sound like a really cool thing! Last time I was in TR, I was a bit skeptical of the hamams and it was SOOOOOOO expensive!!!
