I would like to make a comment here and show my sensitive side.

I think some of the posts above are a bit harsh aimed at Yilgin. He is a long term member of this site, who tries to post things that he feels are important. He does not provoke argument or squabbles nor does he display his political side. He is working hard to learn English and to understand the sense of humour that is portrayed here.

May I suggest that if you do not like this type of thread then don't add to it.

Revealing my insensitive site, I can only say that if it hadn't been for Yilgun's harsh comments in his previous posts (the little girl patronising posts concerning films) he wouldn't be getting such a negative response now.

Sorry I disagree with this particular comment - he likes to post things that make HIM LOOK IMPORTANT like lists of 'important' novels he is reading at the moment, poetry he has read etc. He is setting himself up to be taken down a peg or too. I would have more respect if he was to post something like 'what is your favourite novel?' without prefacing it with a comment like 'here are important novels in the world' and then just running of a list of books willy-nilly (nice English expression for non-native speakers there

Sports and games have changed the world.
What kind of game do you like best?

Very interesting topic yilgun. Thank you.

Have you ever heard of the book Games People Play

It's a very good book to read. I was amazed at how well organized these games seem to be in society.

from totally different shelf but the topic of this thread made me think of the book by the author of transactional analysis Dr Eric Berne'Games people play'
http://www.ericberne.com/
http://www.relationships-explained.com/pages/Games.html
in my country the most popular game seems to be'mine is worse than yours'and 'I've got you'

nothing in common with outdoor games more with chess

Ha Ha...I didn't read all the messages in this thread, but I thought of exactly the same thing and mentioned it in my post too. I think we have some very adept players of some of the games in that book here. One I see a lot here is the 'I have a problem, yes but'

Games People Play

Here is another one I have seen too much of...

Now I've Got You

But nothing to do with the kind of games Yilgun was talking about.

Sorry but I think Yilgun's amended post is even more ridiculous then his original one

Quoting peacetrain:

There is a great wealth of literature out there on this subject . . . the way games impact on our lives in both positive and negative way. It's one of those debates that will rage on ad infinitum.

How on earth can Jumping, Car-driving, 'Long Walk' and Ping-pong have any kind of impact on the way someone lives their life?? The only vaguely competitive one there is ping-pong but that's just what you call table tennis when you can't play it properly! Sorry but I can't take any of Yilgun's posts seriously - and now I expect I will be top of his 'meanest TC members' list!

Jumping - perhaps he is referring to long jump, high jump or triple jump.. . all competitive sports

Car driving - perhaps he is referring to Formula 1 or Rally Driving . . . children often begin with cart racing and then progress

Long Walk - There is a walking race in the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and I'm sure it is included in other 'meets' around the world.

Ping Pong - perhaps he is referring to table tennis, as you say, but pnly because perhaps he didn't know the alternative name for it.

All of these sports are competitive and there is a huge debate about the importance/place of competitive games and sports in our lives, for reasons too numerous to mention here. I say debate because people have very different experiences.

I suppose we all interpret posts in different ways, simply because we are all different. I didn't see anything useless or negative about the initial intention of this particular thread but of course you are entitled to your opinion and I don't see you as a mean person for it.

A game is a game....and athletics is only one aspect of game playing...now isn't it?

the '"now I've got you" game

Perhaps we should define what is a game? What did Yilgun mean when he wrote the word "game"? This is reminding me of what the definition of is "is".

But if I'm not wrong the expression 'Games people play' and the book of that title refer to psychological 'games' nnot morale-building, playing fields of Eton, jolly hockeysticks type of games. Correct me if I'm wrong.
