Quoting Elisabeth:

I don't like or support war but I can not like or support a candidate whose very church supports hatred. Obama is a great speaker...but there isn't much behind the rhetoric. Just my thoughts..

I also think that it is somewhat worriesome that he had been affiliated with that church and that priest for such a long time... :-S That Wright guy does seem like a bit of a psycho, but I'm wondering how exactly would he be able to affect Obama. He said that AIDS was invented to infect black people - I am sure that Obama doesn't believe this, it's too stupid. He's an educated man, born to a white mother, I'm sure he has much more healthy and reasonable views on race.
Wright also said that America is the biggest terrorist country... well, a lot of highly educated people (like Chomsky) say the same thing. America is very violent towards other countries, has always supported cruel dictators whenever it was to their benefit, exploited countries that are weaker... etc. Still, this kind of talk is not acceptable of course, we need intelligent solutions and I think Obama is capable of them.
On the other hand, I'm not sure how important Wright is in the black community, maybe Obama joined that church to gain popularity among African Americans?

I think that if I evaluated all the things that the priests had ever said in the church where I grew up, I'd find a lot of problematic ideas as well. I'm not justifying Obama here, in fact, I find it very troublesome that he did belong to that church... these are just my thoughts.

I got a shirt in Washington DC a few years ago. It has my favorite saying...."stop bitching, start a revolution!".
