Two Turkish generals held over plot to kill Nobel laureate

Turkish police have arrested two retired top generals they believe were members of a state-backed gang ...

The former military police chief Sener Eruygur and Hursit Tolon, former army number two, were among 25 people taken into custody ......

......"provoking armed rebellion against the government".

...was to assassinate public intellectuals, Kurdish politicians, even target military personnel, as part of a campaign to destabilise Turkish society and force military intervention.

...the government is using Ergenekon as a card in its own fight for life – 'take me down, and I'll take you down too.'
...
the death of 60 years of limited democracy, the birth of a Turkey that has the full democracy it deserves

It is a little bit funny when a British paper uses words like: "members of a state-backed gang"! I wonder what the Turkish government's position on that is... :-S

So these guys were trying to kill Orhan Pamuk? For what exactly??????? Does that mean that the government wanted them to do this? Or is it out of people's initiative, because they hate him so much?

Tayyip is over-exaggerating the influence of this "so-called" gang so he can stay in power and protect his beloved AK-Parti...

I am still curious, why did they want to kill Orhan Pamuk? Was it for some kind of dirty drug dealing?

well..who knows why they wanted to kill Orhan Pamuk..

I guess because of his statement regarding the killings of Armenians and Kurds in the Ottoman Empire. Because, strangely enough, they think 'they are protecting the nation'. It is the same reason they killed Hrant Dink..

Actually, limiting their killings to Hrant Dink will not be correct..They have killed many many more in the past (many kurds are in the list too).

These people have been preparing the grounds for a possible army take over by creating chaos (then everybody starts to think that 'ah where is the army!!'). They have done it in 1970 and in 1980 successfully.

It is the first time generals with this ranking being taken down..This is also the proof that deep state itself is the army..Almost everything has been done under their control..

If you ask me, This is begining of the end for the army in Turkish politics..

No more coups anymore. They have to be pulled back where they blong to in any decent democracy.

It is an important event.
