I would like to get your feedback about Beijing banning restaurants from serving dog meat at the Olympics.

Do you think they are being oversensitive, by trying not to offend visitors? Should they leave it on their menus? How do you feel about eating dog meat is there a difference between dog meat, beaf, pork or horse?

China bans dog from Olympic menu

I don't eat meat, however...there is a BIG DIFFERENCE. Most meat eaters are hypocritical in that they will only eat vegetarian animals. There is a traditional revulsion in eating meat-eating animals.

Well to me, its different than taste... its about the habits... during the history... you never feed a dog or horse to eat...

but instead of banning... they could seperate the meals you know as "dog meat","pork","beaf" etc...

If it was the only means of survival, I guess I would try it. I don't know about other countries, but here in the U.S. dogs are family pets. They are loved just like a family member. I can't imagine eating dogs, it seems barbaric to me. I understand it's part of their cultural, but that doesn't mean I have to approve of it.

With the number of guests visiting, I believe they made a good decision to remove it from their menu in the short term.

I find it an exaggeration. Unless only dog meat is served what harm can it do to foreign visitors? If there is a clear distinction in the menu to make sure nobody orders Spotty by mistake, nobody will be insulted. And I bet lots of people will try dog's meat out of curiosity.

I'm with you teas. I think its that whole "eating" a member of the family, even if it is a pet. but then I would look at my pets differently if they "ate" another of my pets.

The Chinese have dogs as pets too! However, their pets are all about "status" and as soon as a breed goes out of fashion they have been known to eat the old one and get a new one!
