Alameda, I can't believe how one sided you are.  |
What is the problem? I simply noted a fact that large facilities for worship is on the rise now. What is one sided about that, any more than some others comments here? A large Mosque is mentioned, so what is wrong with mentioning the fact that mega churches are also on the rise? The issue is related.
I see the issue as LARGE facilities for worship. I guess for some it is the fact that it is a mosque?....or....????
The Wahhabis have a lot of funds to use to build many things. They do not represent the mainstream of Islam, but their economic influence is out of proportion.

Not that I know of, but there is one in Singapore. I don't know exactly where their funding comes from.

Catwoman, I don't understand your message here. Can you expand on that? I know in Minneapolis also, the Big Box Church phenomena is growing.

Thank you Keith. What I meant here was that it is not about how "big" the mosque is, but about what this particular mosque means to the community, what ideology it represents, who is behind it... etc. I was just amazed that Alameda only notices the pieces that are convenient for her - she can be very picky when it comes to criticizing other religions, she questions the sources meticulously when it comes to certain issues and suddenly here, she only sees how "big" the mosque is and that it's a "fashion trend".

We can all be "picky" and "one sided" when we want to be. And your mentioning it is the slippery slope to personal accusation rather than comment about the topic.

I don't like the idea of large mosques or churches. I think they invest way too much money in these buildings and usually it's paid by the members who belong. Here is also an interesting viewpoint to read.
Big Churches
Here is a link to a church I drive by everyday. I'm so embarrass that it's so commericalized and the statue is meant to be so meaningful, but in return it's an eyesoar along the highway.

I think you have a valid point there. Here in the UK there are many places of worship that aren't used to their full capacity and some are even converted for other uses. It would make sense for communities to join together and perhaps change some of the surplus buildings into community centres for people of all/no faith . . . to meet/participate in constructive activities.
A place of worship doesn't have to be elaborate either.
And on a lighter note Mr Handsom, have you ever thought of what could be done with the money which is being spent on the old booze? he he he

What a day - I'm agreeing again with 2 posts above (but for the booze part)
This world needs no more mosques/churches/monasteries. What it needs is more money spent on educating people and medical research.
