I would never use the word myself and yes it´s not used in England. However there are many words in the Oxford English Dictionary now that we members of a certain age would not agree with. Language is evolving all the time, probably why we don´t speak like Chaucer anymore.

OK you gotten your point across! Have a nice day!

That should be:

"OK you´ve gotten your point across!"

thanx goodness,Chaucer was my nightmare I do not think your comment was harsh, just lacked proper explanation, which Yilgun would appreciated. He must have checked this form in old dictionary edition

My original explanation wasn´t aimed at Yilgun, it was aimed at LIR because I don´t think it´s fair to pick at people´s use of language in a public place, when they are learning. A pm would have done the trick. Also, I have a feeling her comment about it was poking fun, as some people tend to do where Yilgun is concerned.

I´m surprised LIR didn´t notice the use of the American spelling of the noun

Nope - can´t have one bit of good grammar with a bad bit.

Exactly! There is more to life than picking people up on their use of language. If a member genuinely wants to help another member with their language and help them improve, they could easily send them a sincere pm and give them the chance to change their post.

The translation forums are a slightly different matter.

Last I checked this was still a language learning site. Since when is it inappropriate to correct someone?
LIR did not do it harshly. I´ve seen MUCH harsher words from some of those who are jumping on the train now.

Oh for goodness sake peacetrain lighten up! Only you could turn a lighthearted comment into a fullscale debate. And, yes, I did notice the spelling of ´licence´ but I wasn´t commenting on Yilgun´s spelling just the fact that the word doesn´t exist in common English use unless you are an American or watch a lot of American TV programmes (or programs if you will).

Yilgun - I apologise if I offended you - I am sure you don´t need peacetrain´s protection.

As I said the translation forum is a different matter.

No, she wasn´t harsh. I never said she was, but I do think she was making fun and the tone was patronising.

As members often say here, we´re all entitled to post comments and points of view and people can agree or disagree. No problem.

Well I disagree and I certainly think you have built it into something bigger than it ever needed to be. By the way.....I never said YOU said she was harsh...funny how you got defensive on that.
