..........Shoes are always removed in my house whether or not it is for one of my husband´s (who is Turkish) business associates or not. Of course I should probably be quiet as I am completely ignorant on the subject......

FWIW...I bought a large box of clean room shoe covers.

shoe covers

that slip over shoes. Anyone who comes to my home can just slip them on their shoes if they don´t want to remove their shoes.

For a variety of reasons I don´t like shoes in the home. One simple practical reason is: I have two cats who live on the floor and are susceptible to various contaigons that can be brought in from the outdoors. I don´t need or want any large vet bills, or sick cats....or people...

Thanks alameda for the link!! I will be moving into a new apartment and was going to provide slippers for guest, but this is much better!!

I was just trying to give the guy some general advice. Sorry if this offended you mltm.

No, it didn´t offend me at all. Why should it?

I just told you that you may not know it.
In fact, it´s delicate to be able to determine where it is better to ask removing your shoes, where not.
For him, it´s better to observe the other guests and see what they are doing, because in a classy dinner at a house, it´s a funny scene when you´re left with your socks and slippers.
