Today´s date is considered lucky in China. In Chinese culture the number 8 is highly significant. Chinese people believe that the 8th August this year will bring them happiness and fortune, because the date contains three ´eights´.

So much so, that people have been queuing all night at postal offices to get a copy of the date stamp. Many women calculated when they should get pregnant nine months ago, and will be hoping to give birth today (cesarians have been fully booked in hospitals for months to be absolutely certain they will be born today!!!). Also thousands of couples will be married today.

So...have a great day!

yes because the number 8 in chinese means "luck". it is auspicious. so if you have 3 number 8s in a row (or even more), it means you will be extremely lucky.

superstition yes, but it´s had a long history.

A row of numbers are also lucky in Russia! For instance, couples got married on 070707, not sure how many it was but many had already filed for divorce a year later. They expect the same rush of marriages on 080808 too!

A pregnancy forum whose member I am also faced that 08/08/08 madness - almost 90% of the girls due in August wanted to deliver right then (4 succeeded ). My estimated date doesn´t look too bad either (28/08/2008)

It wasn´t a particularly lucky day for the people of Osetia (outbreak of war) or people travelling on the derailed Eurocity train from Cracow to Prague (7 fatalities, 65 injured)
