I am not sure it this is the correct title of the programme but Gizelim Gorelim is one of the loveliest programmes on TRT.  It is also available on TRT Int sometimes with English subtitles.

The lady presenter has been doing this programme for around 20 years, I am lead to believe.  She visits all the remote places, villages, mountainous and coastal regions of Turkey and meets the real village folk and sees their lifestyle, eats there food, sees their customs, dances, dress etc....

In one programme she visited a small village that was set up in a river.  The whole village had developed a unique way of communicating across the village and into the surrounding forest - whistling.  They whistle instructions and messages all over the village and they demonstrated it too.  An old village lady whistled at 5 men standing on the bridge across the river.  She did one whistle and they all sat down, andother whistle and they all whistled back etc... it was lovely.

It is an eye-opener and I think it is filmed so respectfully, I mean it is not making fun of people but introducing the viewer to all the ways of life.

Does anyone know if there is a website or book that has been published about this programme.  I would like to be able to go to some of the places I have seen on the programme, but I never get the names or I remember them incorrectly - a book would be useful to find the places I have seen on the programme.

Thanks.

See this thread, it is all about the bird language that you are talking about, in the Black Sea region near Giresun.

Our old members, Janissary and Lapinkulta both came from the area.
