I was listening to the radio today and something very disturbing caught my attention.  This is the second time within a year in my city that a mother forgot to drop off her baby at daycare and left the baby in the car seat all day long in extremely hot temptures to die.  How in the world could you forget your child.

The first mother didn´t even face any time.  What do you think should happen to these mothers?  Can you really imagine forgetting your child?  Is this possible?  I would like to hear your input on this..

this is awful....... i have been working in emergency call centres for nearly 13 years and i have heard a lot of awful things!

she is so calm when making the call and i understand that she may be in shock but to leave the child from 0830 to 1630 and not remember once......i´m sorry i can´t believe someone could be so inhumane.

obviously we don´t know the personal circumstances or state of mind of the mother but something is clearly not right

Here is the kicker, she dropped off her 3 year old at his daycare but forgot to drop off th 11 month old.  It appears they go to different daycares.  I also thought she sounded so matter of fact on the phone and to think she is a school counselor.

Right now we don´t have any laws to protect these infants left in car seats.  Just like the other mother with the 2 year old who got off without anything but probation.  I don´t think either mother did this intentionally and will have to live with this the rest of their  lives, but is that enough punishment in itself?

Honestly, yes, I think that the state should not be punishing people who are not harming others. It´s none of their f..... business. If these mothers were reckless, well.... they got punished enough already, and if they are mentally ill, they should get help, not to be criminalized because of it. Believe me, prisons don´t make people better! They are only there to keep people out of the society, nobody can come out of prison as a good person.

What an awful story, we had two similar incidents here in Poland a couple of days ago - one mother left her disabled child in a car but, fortunately for the little one, somebody saw her and called the police that came to save her just before it was too late.

Another case was way worse - a nineteen-year-old mother wanted to go away on holiday with her boyfriend so she left her baby under the care of...homeless guys at the railway station, paying them with her mobile phone.

I agree that accidents happen and then the guilt is punishment itself, but acts of cruelty against children in particular should be mercilessly punished.

Yes... true, but I support as little state control as possible.. and I think this is one of the cases where if it´s determined that it´s an accident, there shouldn´t be any state intervention...

AWEFUL!!! DESPICABLE!!! No way is this by any means a believable story and I cannot imagine how someone can do that. Considering if you do not want a child you can drop it off at many "safe spots" like a police station without repercussion. The law alows you to do so just so these things wont happen. This makes me sick, and is one of the most not understood crimes in my eyes. {#lang_emotions_noway}

Although I have forgotton my son once in a Wal-mart{#lang_emotions_shy}. He was 12 yrs old and I was doing my shopping, and he wanted to play the game display in the electronics, so he was playing while I was shopping. It was the day before his birthday and I was very stressed trying to get all this stuff for a huge luau Party, and running around like a mad woman. Got all my stuff checked out, drove half way home before I had realized he was not with me{#lang_emotions_shy} So embarrassing! Thank god! by the time I got back there he was still playing that darn game and didn´t even realize. I of course didn´t tell him.

Today he turns 15, and I´m sure I need a few more things for our cook out tomorrow I´ll be sure to bring him home with me this time!
