Hello - does anyone know whether it is better (cheaper/easier) to buy a laptop in UK and then bring it to Turkey or buy it in Turkey? I want to get it as a present for a friend who is out in Turkey at the moment - I guess if you buy in UK you it will not have proper turkish letters on keyboard though.

Also - how easy is it to connect to the internet in turkey? do you have to have an account with an internet provider?

Any help and advice greatly recieved.

Thanks & tesekuler{#lang_emotions_flowers}

I don´t have much experience buying laptops but if you buy one in the UK the plug will be different from  the ones that fit Turkish sockets so you´ll need an adaptor to plug it in in Tureky. Also, I think prices in Turkey are lower than in the uk and it´ll be easier with warranty in case of problems.

Oh, and I hope you´re not being conned by a Turk looking for sponsor

 Laptops are cheaper in general in Turkey - but probably not a make you would recognise in Europs - advantages are Turkish keyboard and set up and ease of repair in case of problems.  But a laptop bought in the UK can be reprogrammed for Turkish and you can just buy a Turkish keyboard. There are hundreds of internet cafes in the towns and tourist areas.  Internet connection at home is much the same as in the UK - obviously you need a phone line and then basic internet connection is around 30 ytl a month.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I am going out in Oct so maybe first I will look with my friend out there and we can decide from there.

Daydreamer and Lesluv - thanks for your concerns but no this is a friend who is from UK and is out in Turkey at the moment....but doesn´t know much about IT etc and wants to keep in contact with us folks back home without having to use internet cafes etc!!

I do also have a few Turkish friends but so far they haven´t asked me to sponsor them or anything!!!

Hello!

Before buying such things you have to consider, in what way your friend will use that laptop.

Is he or she a gamer? Will he or she use it for drawing programs, 3d designing? or just simple office and home uses and internet?

in turkey you can nowadays buy a very good laptops for around 1000 dollars...

if you tell me the way he or she will use, i can give you some links with laptops

good luck...
