Beijing has governed the giant Uighur province of Xinjiang for more than five decades. China´s Communist Party anticipates more attacks by Uighur separatists during the Olympics -- as revenge for Beijing´s harsh treatment of the Muslim minority group.

Interesting article and I especially love the title... So.... aren´t the Muslims in China actually Turks? Why do they represent such a fundamentalist strand of Islam?

excerpt from the article:

"We have not been allowed to teach our children the Koran since the 1990s,"

I am assuming he means ´reading´ the Qur´an but there´s no way they can be prevented from teaching them to recite it.  I should imagine there are plenty there who are able to recite the whole of the Qur´an by heart.

How did you get the idea that they represent a fundemantilist strand of islam from this article?

and what does their struggle to get back their country from the chinese invaders have to do with cihad?

 Dear Tam,

It´s possible that this phrase:  "and I especially love the title",  was designed to incite a response such as yours

Perhaps it would be much simpler if Catwoman explained what she meant, because it seems she made a statement that could be taken in different ways.  I certainly didn´t understand it.  As we know, from past experience, what has gone one before can colour the way we view comments.
