I really want to share our Turkish traditions.
If you decided to marry with your Turkish boyfriend/girlfriend,firstly you have to think again.he he he.I am just kidding,but you have to be patient.
1.Boy's side(the main boy,his dad and his mom)go to girl's house with flowers and chocolates.Firstly they talk about the weather,political things bla bla.And the girl go to kitchen to make Turkish cafe.Then the girl's father ask about boy's job and abilities bla bla.(actually he knows everything,but just a precedure)And the boy's father ask girl's father to let them to marry.Generally the girl's father say"If they want to marry,what can I say,I let them to marry"or he doesn't accept or he can say "give me a time to thing"
2.The boy's side(in this time boy,his dad,his mom and his relatives)come again to girl's home if the girl's father accepted them to marry.This time with the music they enjoy and eat.Because in this day they put a ring.Now everyone can say "they are "SÖZLÜ" It means they gave each other promise to marry.
3.This time they should put a name of this relation.They organise a party again with the relatives.In this time they put another ring(this is the original ring)Now they became "NİŞANLI"It means they determinated them to marry.This period can be soooo long.You should wait the boy to find a good job,or finish the military.
4.Finally you will marry.Before the marriage day,all boys organise a party for the last day before marriage.They drink RAKI and eat.All girls(the girl,her friends,her mom and relatives)organise sth so different.You should see.It is called "KINA GECESİ"They put hena in their hands.They sing touching traditional songs.The aim is to see bride's crying.Generally the bride cries for leaving her mother.The mother also.They both cries.Oooo you should see the bride is in the middle of the saloon,sitting in the chair and crying.But it is hard to see her crying under the traditional cloth.
