The young girls of the district of Durankaya in the southeastern Anatolian province of Hakkari are campaigning for a local high school so they can continue their educations.
The girls put up a canvas banner at the center of the town reading "We do not want to wait for our wedding doing nothing at home; we want to go to high school and university." The female primary school graduates do not have a high school to attend in Durankaya, which is 30 kilometers from the city center of Hakkari. This is not a problem for boys, whose parents allow them to go to schools outside their town. But parents in the town tend to be more protective of their daughters.

Let´s hope they will have a high school soon, so no more parent can deny his/her daughter more education!

Hopefully they will get their school, although I´m a little skeptic. My father in law is from Durankaya Köy, the family also moved because there were no possibilities in the village.

Most of the girls who live in bigger cities go to high school, and it is pretty logic that there has not been a high school in the villages, as some consists of 10 homes or so. In a vast area of Hakkâri it is simply almost impossible to travel for 30 kms back and forth every day, and very few parents have the economy for it. Villagers rarely come to the city, unless they have a good reason for it. Here´s a link: http://yuksekovahaber.com/news_detail.php?id=9396
