I think it´ something worldwide. Even in european countries, being homosexual is something that is not seen "normal", but it is "somehow" accepted. However, they are still made fun of and guys usually have a tendency to avoid them. I think for every family it is something hard to accept that a fmaily member is a homosexual.

In Turkey, especially in rural areas it is not easy, but at least Turkey is a country where there are accepted homosexuals, forexample in Syria (my friend said) it is impossible for an homosexual to appear on TV and to be popular.

sadly he is being deported back to syria after living in the uk for 12 months

You are right about that, but only partially. It is true that there is some kind of ´fake acceptance of homosexuality´ in the Netherlands. I know enough people who never say anything bad about homosexuality, would not deny them any rights or whatsoever, but in private still think it is weird or dirty. But this group of people is slowly reducing here, thank God. And I definitely do not agree that it is hard for every family to accept a member is homosexual. From personal experience I know that there are at least 4 families () who do not have any problems, of which one is very Christian religious!

I did the same for a few years. Actually the hype itself tired my enthusiasm, and I´m not into fantasy that much either. But my sister was very enthusiastic, and so was my dad (at that time still reading her before she went to bed), with whom I actually shar ethe same book taste. I decided to give it a try, and I can say it didnt become a hype for nothing. She really knows how to write a story!

I started reading in 2002 (at first I didn´t like the hype as well but waiting in a hospital for my turn I was so bored I bought a book), with first book 3, than 2 and 1. Now I own all 7 in Dutch, 2 in English (couldn´t wait for the translation when they were released) and 2 small ´collector item´ books: Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them plus Quidditch Through The Ages. Simply said: I´m hooked....

I read the first 2 or 3 because my daughter was reading them at the time.  They´re easy reading . . . think of a modern day Enid Blyton.  Children seem to love them but they´re not the best example of great language/literary structure.  Just my opinion.

Oh I used to love Enid Blyton as a kid! At least, her famous five series. I collected them all when I was young, I must have got over 20 books of that series haha.

It is funny. I always thought one of the main themes of Holywood has always been heroism.

Since the 40´s and right up to now. I have always thought there are zillions of heroic computer games where the might of the US is put on display. I also thought Americans celebrate 4th of July even more enthusiastically than we do our independence day.

I sometimes thought the national interests of most European coutries and the US were always realized at the cost of other smaller nations. I believed Americans killed more people than all the others combined by way of a-bombs they dropped on Japan.

We love our leader because this country stood against the invading forces comprising all the major powers in the world and successfuly overcame them. After winning the war, he said :

"Peace at home and peace in the world." and he sticked to that principle all his life.
