Half of women say they do not need economic independence

  Almost half of urban Turkish women believe economic independence for women is unnecessary, and younger generations seem to share this view more than the older generations, according to newly published research.
Half of women say they do not need economic independence
...
  Psychologist Leyla Navaro, who is an expert on social gender roles, explained the findings of the research and said there was a whole patriarchal social system behind women´s perceptions of that kind.

  ...
  Another significant finding from the research was that almost 50 percent of women between ages 15 and 19 believed a woman´s place was at home, near her children. This ratio was higher than those women aged between 40 and 49 and university graduates who believed women belong in the home.

  “The new generation is scared as they see the costs that were paid by those women who said business is first, family does not matter that much,” Navaro said. “They might not want to experience the same difficulties.”

I wonder ONLY "patriarchal social system" is to blame  for these findings.
It seems to me religion, years and years of religious teachings (Quran courses etc) and the position of women in the religion have been ´slighlty´ ignored as contributing factors.

Those who do not aspire towards independance are at the mercy of those who are independant.

What costs, what difficulties?  I don´t understand why women can´t have a career and be a m other too.  It´s great if you choose to stay at home, but why should it be frowned upon if you want to have a career too?    I thought Turkey was gaining momentum with equality for women?  This doesn´t appear to be the case.{#lang_emotions_sad}

I also wonder out of those 50% of women, if they ever had economic independance in the first place.  I would love to see what % would then still feel this way.

Well, this is not a surprise at all. These women do not understand what they are talking about, this is not an informed opinion. Their world view is pretty small and they probably don´t have many skills - the outside world is surely threatening to them so they choose the easy way out to stay at a comfortable place and keep on repeating the woman-hating propaganda that being an independent woman is somehow bad for children or families! {#lang_emotions_lol}{#lang_emotions_you_crazy}

In other words, this is a normal response taht should be identified by psychologists as such and attempts to help these women out of their little holes and into the world should be made.
