She was just going into her home when she was hit. She lives in Berkeley, California, which is not a high crime area. This happened almost a month ago.

In the news reports it said one 42 year old woman hit, but not critical. This is so misleading, as I´ve been watching her recovery and it´s very difficult and sad.

She seems to have aged 20 years since being hit by the bullet.  Her beautiful walk is not the limp of the wounded. She has that terrified look of shock in her face. They could not remove the bullet, so it sits next to her spine close to her spleen. She has a hole in her diaphram that they can not repair until she gets stronger. She was in the hospital with a tube inserted in her back so as to drain the wound.

She came back to work a few days ago, but still can´t stay too long. She is a loving wife and mother, an excellent employee and very kind woman, not a mean bone in her body.

Life is full of unexpected events.

Omg.. that is so sad (( Please, give your friend best wishes from us. Life is indeed so full of surprises... some are quite heartbreaking, if not lethal . In fact, last year, one of my school-mates´ mother got shot and killed in San Francisco as she was getting ready to go to work in the morning. Supposedly, it was a revengeful employee whom she had fired a couple days earlier... {#lang_emotions_sad} Really... I think those of us who are healthy and happy have a lot to be thankful for every day.

Dont you think it is time that the US stopped this obsession they have with the pioneers and their right to protect their land, and BANNED GUNS! {#lang_emotions_you_crazy}

 Unfortunately, I think the horse has already run out of the barn.  Closing the door at this point, would be like holding back a deluge with a paper cup.  The time to ban guns was after the Revolution.

Alameda...I hope your friend gets the help she needs and is feeling well soon.

 Well I do agree with you in prinicpal. On a practical matter though, I don´t think we will get rid of guns so easily.

I think we need to learn more compassion and respect for all the living creatures.

We need to practice randome acts of kindness and sensless acts of beauty

instead of random violence and sensless acts of distruction.

Inshallah she will be better soon. It must indeed have been a critical experience.

If banning guns is not part of the solution, then what is? In countries like the one I live in, regular people can only have a license if it´s for hunting, and they have to take lessons and pass tests before they can have a firearm. Pistols are almost completely banned as far as I know.

And it works!

I completely agree... It is pure insanity to allow people to buy guns so easily! {#lang_emotions_puking}{#lang_emotions_you_crazy}

 Sounds good.

The problem here is the weapons are not legal, but they are available on the black market. The kids who get them have no idea of how to use them, thus there are many unintended victims. They just hold them and pull the triggers, hitting whatever in in the range. There are so many injuries and deaths from them, it´s difficult to even imagine the destruction they cause.

Bottom line, someone is making money on the sale of these dispictable items.

I´d love to see all of these things rounded up and destroyed. No guns, no bullets, no WMDs. Learn to get along.....sigh....I can dream...

It´s a sad picture you are painting alameda, but unfortunately true. I suppose it´s hard for someone who´s not used to a milieau with firearms to understand why the authorities don´t have more operations to prevent guns from being sold on the black market.

From the outside it looks like they are closing their eyes to how bad things have gotten.

Sorry to hear the sad story of your friend Alameda. I wish her patience and I hope she will recover from that nasty wound soon.

In the end, it all boils down to the fact that we need to share this world with people having aggressive tendencies and an inclination for crime.

There is not an easy answer to whether to allow people to own fire arms because this whole matter is not something that is governed by commonsense. Commonsense says governments must not use mass destruction weapons but there are countries that own them and there are government that actually used them on innocent civilians killing tens of thousands of girls, boys, men, women, and babies ruthlessly and then there are millions of people who shot films to display how proud they are because of the victory that came through these barbaric acts.

Ours is a vulture culture.
