‘Broken heart syndrome’ a greater risk for women

Emotional shock can trigger heart disease. A situation which largely affects women, shocks -- like the loss of a loved one or being abandoned by a spouse -- can lead to abnormalities in the functioning of the heart. Just as lifestyle and nutritional habits are crucial for the health of the heart, so is the brain. 

The risks are actually higher for women than for men when it comes to this type of heart problem, called "broken heart syndrome." The most important reason for this is that women´s hearts are more sensitive and more easily breakable.
