Well as I am giving up, that is beside the point. I guess we all die of something eh? And... do I really want to end my days in some old people´s home, sitting in a chair day after day and arguing with Femme?
+ 1001
.....and besides, one who has never smoked does not realize the joys of smoking. As far as I´m concerned it´s just another way to lord it over others...."I´m better than you because I don´t smoke." I wish all those who insist on telling us smoking will kill you are doing more damage that the actual smoking. Words have power. It´s like a self-fulfilling curse.
Hey, we are all dying.....deal with it, and move on.
If you are really so concerned about our well-being, how about looking at the pollutants in the air that will kill and mutilate more quickly, or, how about the additives in our food and water....or the chemicals added to textiles and plastics that cause hormone disruption, mutations and kill?
You know, it looks to me like the anti-smoking propaganda is yet another way to make a new scapegoat. It´s a diversionary tactic to get you to harp at your neighbour; instead of looking at the other more insidious polluter/killers.
If they really cared for the health concerns of smokers, why don´t they spend some time on inventing a less lethal tobacco product? The Amerindians didn´t smoke pure tobacco, they mixed it with other herbs.

my grandpa died of lung cancer... it was a slow death. he even tried committing suicide because he can´t take it anymore, it was hard breathing, speaking, talking, everything was difficult.
he slit his wrists. found himself on the hospital the next day, my uncle aunts, and dad were devasted.after a few weeks, he died, not of the suicide... but of the lung cancer.
it was also hard to see my mom get sick because of smoking. she started coughing a lot with phlegm. when she got better she goes back to smoking, and then she´ll get sick again... the moment she started coughing out black colored phlegm, that made her decide to stop.
i don´t want anybody that i know or love to experience the same thing. that´s why i never tried it. (besides the fact that i had asthma)
maybe alameda is right. but i don´t think everyone is pushing the ant-smoking propaganda, to rub it on people´s faces and act "holier than thou"... some people who have had family members or loved ones experience losing someone because of this, may have a different motive in doing so...

You are right justintime....not all.....but I think if there were real concern by the "interested parties" there would be some movement on producing a healthier product. It´s not necessarily the actual nicotine that people are habituated to, it´s the holding, playing with the smoke, looking at the smoke and all the things that go along with it.
.....I question motives...and in this anti-smoking thing....I question. I think things are blown out of proportion. If it were as bad as made out to be by the "anti smoking" regime, many of us would not be here.

Turkey pay more than $20 billions per year for cigarette consumption. I bet most of it go to US companies. Last year a new law was passed banning smoking in many public places. There was an attempt to pass a similar law in 90´s (when Ozal was president) and it couldn´t be passed. US companies made a lo tof lobying for it. Even US president called Ozal and demanded that law not to pass.

I agree with you Alameda. I can understand if you have a relative or close friend who suffered from lung cancer - it is indeed a horrible disease. I have witnessed a truly horrible death of a friend from bowel cancer, yet I don´t feel the need to lecture others about eating less red meat and more vegetables.
People who smoke know the risks. In the UK we are not allowed to smoke in any public place, but people still feel that they should approach smokers and point out the risks they are taking. Perhaps I should copy them and patrol the fast food restaurants and approach diners reminding them of the dangers of heart disease?

Well, I personally don´t have anything against smoking and smokers. I smoked until I became pregnant with my son 12 years ago......however, I can´t stand it around me. I think if you want to smoke in your own home, outside or in your own vehicle, knock yourself out.
