Is the Iraq Invasion The Most Shameful Event In British History?
|

"If British troops are indeed withdrawn from Iraq by next June, it will signal the end of the most shameful and disastrous episode in modern British history. Branded only last month by Lord Bingham, until recently Britain´s most senior law lord, as a "serious violation of international law", the aggression against Iraq has not only devastated an entire country and left hundreds of thousands dead - it has also been a political and military humiliation for the invading powers.
Is this an over-reaction, or indeed, the darkest chapter in our island´s history? I remember when we had a day off from school to march against the invasion of Iraq, together with millions of other Brits, through London, hearing activist (and Labour MP for Hampstead) Glenda Jackson describe the coming invasion as the first time in a thousand years, that Great Britain had illegally invaded sovereign territory"
I too, joined that march and remember the deepest feeling of disgust when our protests were ignored.

Even if you consider it to be incredibly shameful, I don´t think it fair to say it is the most shameful event in British history. What about the building of the British Empire and the associated pillage???

You dont?!?!?!
It IS actually worse than the empire, because we live in different times now, and the public have access to more information and detail, and YET it continued...

We know that a considerable part of British society denounce the invasion of Iraq by what we may losely call as West actually committed this crime collectively as no serious government level objections or intervention attempts have ever been observed. You are objecting your own government about the invasion but defend it at all costs on the forums, in the ranks of the Western league. Phew! I call this patriotism...

I think there are many EU countries who would strongly object to this comment.

Are you talking to me personally? When have I EVER defended this at all, let alone "at all costs". And what is "the Western League" exactly?

My girlie and I spend lots of time argueing over clothes........
As we share all our clothes it is not uncommon for us to want to wear the same thing at the same time despite having quite a few clothes. We are getting around this problem by mostly now buying two of everything
Don´t expect the neutrality to last........I´m just giving other folks a chance to express their opinions!

Ãt didnt take much attention it seems on the time, but in an attempt to justify the war by many funny reasons
à believe its important to point out its not justified by the ones who are part of it too.

Yes, it will be years we will have to live with the shame...How many lives were terminated or irreparably damaged? I am so ashamed...so deeply ashamed.
There were three large marches right before the invasion of Iraq, I was in all three of them. The day the invasion started, I took off from work in protest. Many millions across the world participated in the marches. There were hundreds of thousands marching in San Francisco. The reports didn´t give an accurate count.
It was frightening, there were helicopters flying over us all the time.
Anti war protests

Why should you be ashamed???
You were at all three marches - is there anything else you could have done to try to prevent invasion???
