Internet Explorer Security Risk

Users of the world´s most common web browser have been advised to switch to another browser until a serious security flaw has been fixed.

The flaw in Microsoft´s Internet Explorer could allow criminals to take control of people´s computers and steal their passwords, internet experts say.

Microsoft is investigating the problem and preparing an emergency software patch to resolve it, it says.

Internet Explorer is used by the vast majority of the world´s computer users.

"Microsoft is continuing its investigation of public reports of attacks against a new vulnerability in Internet Explorer," said the firm in a security advisory alert about the flaw.

Microsoft says it has detected attacks against version seven of the browser - its most widely used edition.

But the company warned that other versions were also potentially vulnerable.

Having read the technical article about this from Information Security I´m quite happy that none of our machines will be compromised by this.......However, I do have a pretty heafty firewall between here and the big bad internet world plus relatively good anti virus and anti intruder software.

So we are a little more secure than the average home installation.......

It may not be enough. You may still get infected. You still have to watch your steps.

(Someone who has never used any antivirus software so far and doing fine anyway)

I´m still not concerned.......

I have every confidence in my network security.

Helped by running IE6 on nearly every machine in school - not IE7

The update this morning on all the news is that Microsoft have still not resolved this problem and that you should use Firefox or Chrome or some other search engine in the meantime.  The main thing is to avoid any online purchases, online banking or sites which carry your personal info.

They may have a "patch" to resolve this later on today
