Greek President Blames Turkish Army For Bilateral Problems
Greek President Karolos Papoulias Tuesday accused the Turkish army of being "at the nucleus" of frequently strained relations and territorial spats between Athens and Ankara. "The Turkish army´s key role in (forming) policy in the neighboring country is at the nucleus of the problem in Greek-Turkish relations," said Papoulias, who also accused Turkey of making territorial claim "provocations."
..At a time when Turkey "seeks to undertake broader peace-building initiatives, (it) also creates a series of incomprehensible and irrational provocations, such as the systematic flight of its warplanes over Greek islands such as Agathonissi," the Greek president said.
Turkey questions Greek claims to the waters and airspace surrounding many islands near the Turkish coast.
Greek warplanes are routinely sent to intercept Turkish fighter aircraft whenever they enter these zones, leading to the occasional mock dogfight which in 2006 claimed the life of a Greek pilot in a mid-air collision.
The two neighbors and NATO allies also nearly went to war over a cluster of uninhabited Aegean Sea islets in 1996.
Relations, nevertheless, had improved markedly in recent years.
Greece is supporting Turkey´s bid to join the European Union..

the thing is that you probably dont know or you purposely refuse to know that there were greeks and armenians in history that supported turkey politically and contributed to turkey economically.
one of them calouste gulbenkian - mr five percent. father of turkish petroleum which he managed to establish despite the british foreign policy of those times.
