The meaning of Gaza’s ‘shoah’: Israel plots another Palestinian exodus

Israeli Deputy Defence Minister Matan Vilnai’s much publicised remark last week about Gaza facing a “shoah” -- the Hebrew word for the Holocaust -- was widely assumed to be unpleasant hyperbole about the army’s plans for an imminent full-scale invasion of the Strip.

Until now, it had appeared, Israel’s plan was eventually to persuade Egypt to take over the policing of Gaza, a return to its status before the 1967 war. The view was that Cairo would be even more ruthless in cracking down on the Islamic militants than Israel. But increasingly Vilnai and Barak look set on a different course.

Their ultimate goal appears to be related to Vilnai’s “shoah” comment: Gaza’s depopulation, with the Strip squeezed on three sides until the pressure forces Palestinians to break out again into Egypt. This time, it may be assumed, there will be no chance of return.

With the Jewish history of Holocaust, I find it incomprehensible how they managed to become such perpetrators.. I think this is an insult to all the Holocaust victims and a sign that they completely forgot history...

 you often talk of things you dont know much. how dare you compare holocaust to gaza?

 I don´t see that CW was making a comparison.... and I agree with her actually.  These "victims" for 2000 years or more, are displaying quite a different side.

 israelis didnt build gas chambers and didnt keep arabs in starving camps, watch them, they dont look like dying out of hunger like it was in german ghettos or starving children in africa.

arabs always get a medical treatment in israeli hospitals. jews are not killing every single arab living in israel, but every jew caught in arab area can definetly get killed and dismembered.

This is quite disturbing.  With this being said, If my neighbor has announced the hate and destruction of my people and country I would  be certainly taking measures to make certain this wasn´t a repeat of history.

The situation is not the same, unless you first announced that your neighbor´s home is on your land, you kicked that neighbor out of her/his house into a refugee camp, demolished her/his house and then the neighbor and other people like him organized themselves and said that they wish you were kicked out of there!

This shows that you simply don´t know what you´re talking about.
