The tomato comes from Peru and spaghetti was probably a gift from China.
It is, though, the “foreign” kebab that is being kicked out of Italian cities as it becomes the target of a campaign against ethnic food, backed by the centre-right Government of Silvio Berlusconi.
The drive to make Italians eat Italian, which was described by the Left and leading chefs as gastronomic racism, began in the town of Lucca this week, where the council banned any new ethnic food outlets from opening within the ancient city walls.
Asked if he had ever eaten a kebab, Mr Zaia said: “No – and I defy anyone to prove the contrary. I prefer the dishes of my native Veneto. I even refuse to eat pineapple.”
Mr Castellani said that the ban reflected growing intolerance and xenophobia in Italy.

Many years ago, we used to have a ryhme in Turkey in order to encourage people to use local products: ´yerli mali yerli mali, herkes onu kullanmali´
I guess Italians are following us years later
But, Ataturk said to us ´be a head of all nations!´
Come on Tami. Show these evil westerns that you are not less xenophobic then them and retaliate:
Stop eating pizza and pasta

sorry to disappoint you but Im not a nazi, and I don`t see anything xenobhobic about saying yerli mali yurdun mali herkes onu kullanmali as far as a certain type of product from a certain type of area is not banned. note that the ban of these nazis doesn`t affect the hamburger of america but the kebab of Turkey even though they are both foreign.

I think their ban include every foreign food..:
"Mr Zaia said that those ethnic restaurants allowed to operate “whether they serve kebabs, sushi or Chinese food” should “stop importing container loads of meat and fish from who knows where” and use only Italian ingredients."
And also here it says : Italy bans kebabs, McDonald´s food
http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/266321
But surely, we should stop eating all pizzas and pastas as a retaliation!

The British sure have a great tradition of cooking. Their cuisine is so unique that it´d better be kept on the island I have nothing against sausages but why to wrap them in pastry? Why spoil the colour of tea by adding milk thus making it taste blunt? But I´m willing to forgive evil Brits their greasy fish and chips (the only veggie they use) because of TRIFLE. Yummy

I liked the food in England too. I never knew you can put vinegar on french fries (sorry, chips). And I absolutely loved the fish and chips served in a newspaper.
My fondest memories revolve around the beer though and the pubs! Who knew you could start drinking at noon?
