Zeynep Fadillioglu is one member of a team of interior designers and architects overseeing the construction of the Sakirin Mosque.
The Designer
...and the Mosque
It has a very futuristic look to it - I wonder if the traditionalists approve? Personally I like it and look forward to visiting next time we go to Istanbul.

hi,
you know I read the Full story, and I came to conclusion that she is just motivated and excited with the idea that she is the first woman who is going to build the mosque.
probably I am wrong. I guess such steps must done from the bottom of your heart and with pure intentions. Does not matter how beautiful and luxurious the mosques is, cause Allah first must be in your heart.
Then, please, could you help me to get the meaning of the following sentence
"The governing pro-Islamic political party was almost banned this year after it tried to allow women who wear Islamic head scarves to study at universities. " One moment as I got from this sentence women wearing head scarves are not allowed to study at university? Really? I haven´t known. But why?

That is correct....... women are not allowed to wear headscarfs in university to either study or teach, nor are they allowed in any public departments and government either. I don´t know exactly why, but I think it is something to do with Attaturks ideals of a secular state. It is a shame that women are being denied a good education because they wish to wear a scarf. I think there have been plenty of debates on here about this issue.
I find it a bit discriminatory really, as muslim women in the UK are allowed to wear scarves and full Burkas even where ever they are (in general).
But back to the mosque, it is quite beautiful and why not have a mosque that is attractive to look at? Surely it is moving on with modernisation.........

Thats correct.
I teach in a traditional school, and all the female teachers arrive in scarves and remove them for teaching. Some of them get around it by wearing wigs.
It took me back when I first realised they wear wigs.
