surely, divorced is divorced and shouldn´t matter which nationality you are marrying the next time....if the man is divorced and free to marry a turkish woman then he should be divorced enough to marry an english woman?????? I fear a line is being played here!!!!!

Reading the stuff on the consulate website that is not quite the case.  The Turkish man has to be divorced in both the UK and Turkey.  So if he is married in the UK and gets divorced he then has to go through the process again in Turkey before he can marry again.  But I do see where you are coming from Unsure  sort of goes with Alphas  collection joke.........

From the consulate site: (leads you to beleive it is a regular occurance if they are providing information <img src='/static/images/smileys//lol.gif' alt='lol'>

If a marriage between a Turkish and a British national was solemnized in the UK and then registered in Turkey or if a marriage between a Turkish and a British national was solemnized and registered in Turkey, regardless of divorce degree that may be a obtained in the UK, a suit of divorce should be filed in Turkey as well. To this end the following steps should be taken by the foreign national:

* A solicitor in the UK will give Power of Attorney to an appointed solicitor in Turkey. The Power of Attorney should be
apostilled by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
* Upon receipt of this Power of Attorney the appointed solicitor in Turkey will commence with divorce proceedings.

thanks for the info. he has done all the power of attorney papers back and forth and his divorce was granted in turkey but now its the part of the turkish courts sending papers (translated) back to england then i think to ankarra for a judge ( i think that was mentioned) as i stated when i was in turkey 3 weeks ago we both went to some kind of goverment building to enquire if his paperwork had arrived back from whoever and the man showed me a document stating the documents had been lost in transit and had to start all over again. the goverment building had courtrooms in it and men wearing gowns so i am presuming they were judges, so no i dont think i was taken for a ride

More to it than meets the eye - we have typical (generalising here) Turkish man here who does not want to commit, so the "divorce rule" comes into play.............

i have spoken to a turkish friend of a friend here in england and apparently he has to get divorced in turkey and england too however if he wanted to marry a turkish girl well he only needs the divorce in turkey but because  i am english thats why it has to be done in england too. its the same as if it was the english person was divorcing the turkish man she would only need to get a divorce in england if she wanted to marry an english man but if she wanted to marry another turkish man the divorce would have to be done in turkey too
