This is very sad. Some early reports say the balloon that crashed had its balloon skin ripped open by the basket of another balloon crossing above it. The reported 50 metre drop would have been absolutely terrifying for all on board. With over 35 balloons operating in the area each day, and limited communication (other than between balloons from the same company) pilots must be extremely attentive.

I suspect video footage will eventually hit the media, as most tourists on all these flights carry cameras.

Very sad indeed…Sad Seems that accident happened when two balloons collided in mid-air.

Anyway, no matter how scary and unsafe balloon flying looks, it is much safer than, as for example, car driving or airplain flights. The manager of Cappadocia Balloon Tours said it was Kapodokya´s first accident in more than 10 years of operation.

LL, I hope this won´t stop you to take a balloon ride when you visit Kapadokya

They are charging heck a lot of money. I am pretty sure most ordinary people are automatically saved from any hazards since they simply can´t afford it.

I went to Cappadocia twice. The atmosphere is great. If you go there with a group of friends, you will probably enjoy it more. After tiring daytime walks, it is nice to take sip from the local wine enjoying the unpolluted dry air that makes you fall asleep sooner.

I am sorry about the old chap. God only knows where death will find us.
