We are on this site to share common interests about Turkey and Turkish Culture. but some ppl still working for different aims if you read last columnist. I wanted to write my opinion under his own thoughts but I saw that NO BODY CAN MAKE ANY COMMENT UNDER HIS colum.

(Comments are disabled for this column.)

who gives him the right to impose his own thoughts to other ppl about turkey! if admins think this is "freedom of speech", why we can not write our comments???

Columns are exactly personal opinions of the columnist. If you want to have your own column as well, where you want to write about Turkey, let us know.

they are negative and insulting in your opinion,  I personally would be unable to make any judgements without more informtion.....but as stated a column is the writers own opinion and the fact that it is closed for comment just means the debate happens on the forum rather than on the column

Actually, any of the columnists, at their discretion,  can disable comments for their column, it appears this is the only one who has taken advantage of that option.....and only for this particular column.

Freedom of speech is not the liberty of blubbering anything that pops to your mind, on the spot.

It is the freedom to be able to say what you want from amongst many correct and rational alternatives.

Of course it is possible.  The issue is, when one comments directly to the column, the comments stay with the column instead of scrolling into oblivion.  IOW if someone wants to comment directly to a column, it stays with the relevant column,  where comments are connected to the column.  As you, no doubt, most have noticed, subjects in the forum scoll away from sight.

once again -- that is the nature of our columns -- columnists post their articles and they may choose to have comments or not. if any of you want to be serious columnists, you will have the same option.

Like it was said, you may copy his article and comment on it in the forum. I suppose he wanted to avoid that "You cannot insult Ataturk" constructive remarks Cool.  I m against this, it s not right to give such oppurtunities to him.

he will write what he wants on the main page and I will write my comments and tell it s not right in the forum pages, it s not fair.

About insulting Ataturk constructive remarks: I dont want you to aggree with me and respect Ataturk. coz u can not understand what he means for turkish people.

he fought against western imperialism and he is one of the few heros who won the war against imperialism in the war and established a modern country. he is a symbol of modernisation for us.

Thats why speech of a maniac person who shoots around in the street can not be takes serious. It s funny to use as a reference of his speech in the court to insult Ataturk´s principles. Handsome is always doing this. I accept that his persuasion ability is only works for the female mods. he is administrate site not mods.

I think it has been duly noted by just about everyone here that you are against this!   Seriously though,

whether you like it or not he has the right to block comments from his column, just as you would have the right to do so if you chose to write one.  So why don´t you put your energy into defending what you beleive to be the truth instead of making such a damn fuss!

Write a column Janis....tell your side.....but the truth is, I doubt many people here take what is written as gospel...and those that do....well some people just don´t have enough brains in their heads to get your panties in a twist over!

It has been made quite clear to you that this blocking thing is not a special feature designed just for handsom so get over it already and quit demeaning the women on this site by saying that handsom has control over them!  All that does is make you look like you are jealous or something and it´s starting to look like you are the one he controls!  It´s really starting to border on bizarre.  Rant

And ya know what, I would bet you that this silliness has gotten far more attention than posting a rebuttal in the column ever would.....and also had what is likely the opposite effect of what janis wanted...he drew more attention to the column so more people have probably read it now.

You´re right, girleegirl.

And democracy has another side.

"Ýddia sahibi iddiasýný ispatla mükelleftir. (Turkish)"

"The side of the plaintiff is responsible for her/his claim to prove.(English)"

If you can not proved it, it will be a claim forever.

And ya know what, I would bet you that this silliness has gotten far more attention than posting a rebuttal in the column ever would.....and also had what is likely the opposite effect of what janis wanted...he drew more attention to the column so more people have probably read it now.

 thanks GG Big smile exactly!!!!!

Im the most criticized person on this site caným.

and this man is always flattered by mods but only I criticized his one sided negative thoughts about turkey and as usual u supportted him

Canim, a couple corrections:

- I am the most criticized person on TC, not you!

- everybody´s thoughs are one sided, because everybody has only their own perspective. your thoughts are one sided too, that is why we want many different people involved in a conversation to share their thoughts and hopefully get a bigger picture.

- mods or me do not support thehandsom, we do not owe him any money. sometimes we do AGREE with him!

Regarding theHansom´s column:

It says "The title of document is : ‘Irtica Eylem Plani’ which can be translated as ´Action Plan for Sheria´ ...

Note his translation....even a cursory look up for the words doesn´t show Sheria in what was supposed to have been translated.

Irtica=-aý (political, social) reaction

Eylem=1. action. 2. operation.

Plani= planimetry, plano- concave.

I don´t know much about Turkish politics and I´ve got more than enough on my own plate to worry about and try to untangle....but looking at just this much causes me to question the credibility of what has been written.  The particular choice of words seems to me a strategic choice to elicit maximun reaction....and given the "West´s" obsession and misunderstanding of Sheria these days, rather melodramatic.....and to add to that, no comments allowed on this one.  Of course theH knew this would cause furor....It is rather rude, but within what is allowed.   Out of 19 columns, this is the only one restricting comments, is it any wonder it has caused extra reaction?

It´s really not to difficult to decipher.  It seems fairly clear that, being as he said "can be translated" .....that he is taking "Sheria" from the body of the document...and not making a literal translation of the actual title.

I have read thehandsom´s column several times and it is difficult decipher what is actually in this missing document and what are his own conclusions. At one point he says "if it is true you can conclude" and he then proceeds to put words in the mouths of the army. It is also difficult to believe that the army would let it be known their intention to plant weapons in the homes of government supporters. Is the Taraf newspaper where this document was first mentioned a large daily newspaper? It all seem a bit vague to me. Unsure

It seems that many people are taking what handsom has written as if it is some sort of definitive document.  It is a column people!  Handsom´s thoughts.  Right or wrong, nothing more, nothing less....that´s all it is.

Much ado about nothing.

of course I dont take his column serious. I never did.

but TC mods accept him as a wirte and allow him to write on main page.

Turkey sufferered too much from that kind of ppl coz first we never take serious things when some stupid ppl do.

for me this sitution is like "Midnight Express". we didnt take this film serious at first but it took too long time to change ppl´s thought about turkey.  still there are millions of ppl who think with the "midnight express".

GG and somefriends accuse me that I made him populer, they want me be silent and allow all members read turkey news as a daily things in turkey. and make ppl think everybody shoots around in the street.

We are not idiots so quit acting like we are.  You crazy?

Most members here are able to discern what is truth from what is someone´s opinion!  Just because a member....any member....posts something here does NOT mean that it is believed to be FACT!

And I did not accuse you of anything.  I simply pointed out that I felt you brought much more attention to handsom´s column that it ever would have gotten without your rantings.  Quit being so damn paranoid!

Well, actually some how i do think Jan has a point...well even good one too...sorry guys but that is how i see it.

Ýf im a new member or a stranger on TLC and dont know handsom and the background of the debats we used to have here, and reading that column on the front page, actually yes i would give it credibility, as much as i have trust in TLC i would put same trust also at its columinist !

Disabling the comments is not fair as i see, and having the ability to comment at the forum not like posting the reply under the column and i think that is exactly why handsom disable it...he knew that.

You cant know how everyone think gg so no not everyone will pay the effort to know about something he think he already knew and that is what Jan meant i believe.

People already have imagination in their mind about Türkiye thanks to the Media and if they read what support that without even no argument...so...why would they waste their time to search more ?

They already know !

And i dont have to explain how much is the Media influence out there !

Ýf handsom or anyone got used the opportunity in publishing his thoughts in public he should also accept the burden of receiving the criticism...but he wanted to hear only one voice, and one side..his !

So it seems.

As cat said the opinions of the colominists doesnt represent TLC...i hope admin add this to the main page as well under the latest by Turkish Class colomnists with smaller font, that the columnists represt their opinions not TLC opinions.

I agree with both Canlý and girleegirl.

But I truly hope that admin won´t choose to continue to allow comments on columns to be blocked. If the policy of the site is to allow criticism, then "criticism of criticism" should be allowed too.

I can see Jan´s point about how people will feel about Turkey after reading something that puts Turkey in a bad light.  Just consider this:  Do you think that endless debates on the columns, name calling, accusations, and the usual things that happen on the forums will make a new member to TC feel more welcome or less confused about Turkey?  Maybe the answer is to disable ALL the comments on the columns and leave the debating for the forums.

Meanwhile the column in question stands alone and unchallenged with direct links to the front page and open to all visitors to this site. It is full of wild allegations and the translation of the document title  is entirely wrong. Surely the admin or mod overlooking the columns should ask the author to correct the errors as it brings the columns into disrepute. All this under the heading "News from Turkey" as well.

Most of the members on this site is trying to learn somethings about turkey. of course I dont wait people write good things about turkey all the time. every country has bad or good things. We are here to share and help foreign ppl to answer their questions. but if you read his column or his posts carefully you will see that even nice things are written in a mocking or insulting way.

Janni, read a few posts back and see that Kittie asked you to write your own column. So, please stop whining and get to write it. We know you´d like to see yourself as a victim of evil westerners plot but you aren´t. You´re just like everyone else just way more grumpy. I don´t think anybody was surprised when you didn´t become mod - after all politeness, manners or objectivity you show are far from what mods are expected to have. Write your own column, disable comments and just move on.
