The body of German tourist Gregor Kelkeling is carried by emergency services after he died at Taksim First Aid Hospital in Istanbul on 20 July 2009 due to injuries sustained after a man stabbed him earlier in the day. Kerkeling, 41, was assaulted by a Turkish man who approached him asking for money, while walking on Istiklal Avenue, Istanbul´s main pedestrian street, with his Turkish girlfriend, the Milliyet daily reported on its web site. |

A nasty incident with a tragic ending and shocking how many people passed by before someone decided to step in and help - but I´m not sure of the point of your post. I don´t wish to ´do a Janissary´ but is it supposed to show Turkey (Istanbul) in a bad light? This could have happened in any big city in the World and - more´s the pity - does so on a daily basis.

You are right..these things happens everywhere but we must not forget that Istanbul in a huge city and there doesnt live just turks. It cant be made a statistic of foreigners who are staying illegual there who made bad things in their country maybe and hide there.
Im convinced that those who loves Turkey will go there no matter what happens.
We have the right to know the beautiful part of Turkey but also the bad part..nobody cant hide beyond a finger because the news goes all around the globe. And this is not a forbidden subject here on forum.

a life is taken by a MONSTER for nothing and people are concerned about the image of Istanbul
how many tourists will not come to Turkey is a meaningless subject now because a human being is killed for nothing. lets all cry for GREGOR not for the image of Turkey, if we can...

To cry for all who died on atentats (foreigners or turkish) and also for soldiers who gave their life in south-earstern border for defending Turkey because they also paid for us to have a beautiful country where to come. We have to thank them.
